Kathie Lee Gifford Reunites With Regis on "Live"

August 15, 2007 -- KATHIE Lee Gifford is reuniting with Regis - for one day.

Gifford, who co-hosted the show for 15 years, will be a guest on “Live! With Regis & Kelly” for the program’s 20th anniversary Sept. 14.

It will mark the first time Gifford has appeared on the show since she left in 2000 and was replaced by Kelly Ripa.

“We’ve all seen each other, but this will be the first time Regis, Kelly and Kathie are together on the air,” “Live!” executive producer Michael Gelman says.

The details of Gifford’s exit were never made public. Though she quit the show, it was never clear if she jumped or was pushed.

Reportedly, Gelman has banned Kathie Lee as a guest ever since.

Gelman yesterday called the stories false and denied any bad blood with her.

“I would not say we didn’t get along,” he says. “We agreed on most things and disagreed on some others.

“We’ve been waiting for the right time to have her back, and this is a big event so we’re happy to have her back.”

Gelman says he hasn’t personally talked to Gifford about her return - but that’s normal.

“We have guests coming on tomorrow that I haven’t spoken to” either, he says. Kathie Lee has visited the set of the show since her departure, turning up for a staff party in 2003, Gelman says. She also appeared as a guest on Ripa’s sitcom, “Hope & Faith,” and has been a regular dinner companion of Regis’ for years.

“He was actually up visiting her pretty recently,” Gelman says. “But I don’t think he was up to speed on the [20th anniversary] plans at the time.”

Meanwhile, to mark the anniversary, “Live!” will hold a two-week celebration that kicks off Labor Day.

The promotion features a car giveaway with an Oprah twist. Chrysler will pay the taxes for each prize to

avoid a situation similar to the 2004 “Oprah” debacle when an entire audience of about 300 people were given

new cars, but were later socked with hefty tax bills for their prizes.

“You never want to give people a prize that they have to give back,” says Gelman. “We talked about our concerns with Chrysler and they were happy to handle it.”
