Default Julie

One thing that I am "very" surprised about is how long it has been since anyone has posted on this page! It has been over a week since I joined this community and so far, none of my posts on this page have any responses. I do, however, have responses to posts that I have made regarding, "The Brady Bunch", "Caroline in the City" and "The Odd Couple". In any event, on most sites, I do not like to post more than one message in a row. I like to wait for other people to post before I post again. However, this site is different because the writer can post about as many subjects as he or she wants and each post stands along. For a "long" time, I was the last person to sign the guestbook on the site of actress Lauri Hendler (the one who played Julie)! However, yesterday, I went to that site and, sure enough, someone else had posted! Needless to say, I took the chance to sign the book again and tell other Lauri fans about all of the messages that I have posted here. Now I am telling all of you about my latest post there! Also, the last time that I checked (which was last night) I was the most recent person to post a message on the "Gimme a Break!" page of "Jumb the Shark". I attempted to check it several times today, but there is some technocal problem that is keeping me from getting in. The fact that I cannot get into that site is one of the reasons why I am spending so much time on this one. This evening, I have already posted new messages on "The Brady Bunch" and "Caroline in the City" pages of this site. I would be "very" interested in what any of you thought of any of them!

I havent been able to get into jump the shark for about 2 weeks....As for Gimme a Break, I think theres not a lot of posts because it was a series that only ran 3 seasons and a lot of people have almost forgotten about it, or have lost interest ( no offense intended )

Actually, Gimme a Break! ran for 6 whole seasons. I think people may have lost interest but whenever I mention it, people explode with "I used to LOVE that show!" I bought a copy of the First Season dvd for a friend of mine and she loves it. She was asking why more seasons haven't been released. I think Universal just doesn't realize that there is a demand out there for the show and that people may not even be aware that it is on dvd. Hopefully, VEI in Canada will continue to release the show.

By the way, Smartboy, I know what you mean. I post and then wait for a response. But not a lot of people seem to post in here anymore. We need to get the hype going so that we get the whole series on dvd.

it ran 6 years? didnt seem like it .....how many years was Dolph Sweet on it? After he died, I stopped watching, maybe thats why i remember it as being really short lived.

Yeah, Gimme A Break! ran for 6 whole seasons. Dolph Sweet was only on the show for 4 of those seasons. However in Season 4, as Dolph Sweet's health deteriorated, he was written into the show less and less. The show was never the same after he died, but they did a pretty good job of keeping the show afloat after that. When NBC fired the three girls, that was the end of GAB! as viewers knew it.

Smartboy, welcome to the Gimme A Break! Forum! Yes, I agree that it has been a long time since anyone has posted anything about the show. Maybe one of the reasons is because it is still Summer and people travel and stuff like that. I ususally wait until people respond, whenever I post something, but every now and then I will post multiple messages.

I am still holding out hope for the release of Season 3 of GAB!, especially since Season 2 sold so well. I've emailed VEI more than once as to the releases of the remaining seasons of the show, but thus far, I have received no response. Please feel free to email VEI about this show, if you so desire!

I am not holding my breath for Universal to release any more seasons of GAB! If they were in any real competition with VEI, Seasons 2 and probably 3 would have already been released long ago.

Yeah, me too. I e-mailed VEI at the beginning of the year and I actually got a response. They said they were aiming for the end of the year for the release of Season 3. Since then, they have released both Seasons 3 and 4 of Kate & Allie. However, Gimme a Break! seems to be on hold.

I would like to know exactly what the hold up is for the Season 3 release of GAB! Hopefully, we won't have to wait too much longer.

Default Finely

I cannot tell you how much it means to me to "finely" see some responses to one of my messages on this page! I think that the poster who pointed out that it was still summer and people are doing other things had a very good point. However, it seems that the number of messages that get posted seem to go up during the weekend. Maybe, since it is now Friday Night, there could be a big influx of messages in the next couple of days! As far as the person or people who pointed out that the show went on for six full seasons, I am "well" aware that you are right! I would say that the first and second seasons were my favorite. However, I considered it watchable up until the last season in which the chief and "all three" of the girls were gone! During the sixth season the humer was "extremely" forced and artificial! After the first two seasons, there was only one episode that I "especially" liked! This episode was in the third season and it was called "Samantha's Protest". Those of you were are curious about what went on in this episode and why I liked it so much can scroll down a few message and they will find one by me with the same title as the episode. Take care!

I hope VEI releases the later seasons. I'm looking forward to them. Here are some of my favorite episodes.

I love the one where Nell looks after the little girl that Samantha is responsible for. It's so funny when Nell picks up the phone and the girl has called Japan.

The later years end up being more about Nell and Addy. There's the episode where the get stuck in separate elevators after shopping for Addy's ring. Nell and Addy end up talking to each other over the emergency phone.

The other favorite episode I have from the later seasons is the one where Nell tried to get Joey to play with her boss' daughter. He ends up becoming a "gigolo" and Nell is not happy with his behavior. When she goes to the girl's house, their maid says Nell has to be announced and she says "I don't need to be announced. I can announce myself." and she bursts through the door and says "I'm here!" LOL!!!

Can't wait to see these again.

Default Pantyhose

I started this thread for the purpose of telling other fans how crazy I was about the character of Julie and the actress who played her. On this thread as well as other threads on this page, I have told the reader about various things that Julie said and did that "really" filled me up! I would now like to add one more. In the first season, there was an episode called "Your Prisinor is Dead". In this episode, Katie was given the task of picking up a bunch of things at the store for various members of the household. These things included cream rinse for Julie who had a date that night and a pair of pantyhose for Nell. When Katie got to the store, she met a handsome boy who worked there and started flirting with him. After he asked her out, she was in such a trance that she forget everything that she was supposed to pick up. Julie was "very" upset with Katie! In an attempt to sum up the situation, Nell said that Katie did not get anything. Katie responded with, yes I did, I got a date for Saturday Night"!

In discust, Julie responded with, "well at least you picked up something"! She then added, "it is just like you Katie to put your own personal lust ahead of Nell's pantyhose!" Hearing a cute little girls like Julie use pantyhose in her sarcasim "really" made me feel giddy!

I think that GAB is sadly a show that a lot of people have forgotten about and that it has had trouble finding new fans because it really isn't shown that much in reruns. I watched the show during it's last two seasons and during reruns back in the 1980's. However, here in Chicago it wasn't shown after 1990 or so until our station ME-TV brough it back into rerun last September. I started watching it as soon as they started showing it and fell in love with it all over again. Last October, I went out and bought the first season DVD. I'm really sorry that Universal isn't going to be releasing further seasons but I am happy to at least have season one because it is my favorite.

Don't forget that you can purchase GAB Season 2 from either amazon.com or amazon.ca.
