Hey Everyone:
Obviously Im a big Unsolved Mysteries fan, thats why I am member of this board. But what I dont understand is why I do not like any of the other true crime shows such as City Confidential, 48 hours, or AMW. They aren't terrible programs but, for me, nothing compares UM. And Ive always wondered why. Is it just the way they present the cases? Is it the hosts? The music? Maybe its a combination of many things. Im not sure. I just wish I could find a show to satisfy my UM fix. Christopher |

When you look at it a little differently, UM was better than anything in it's glory years we all speak of but after that I'd probably prefer The New Detectives during UM dying years.

I think the key word here for me is "Mysteries" because it involves it's audience to help solve a crime, find a lost love or draw a their own conclusion on the ghost or alien stories. Most of the other true crime shows usually have an ending because the crime has already been solved or they know who did it where as UM usually did not.

UM is by far the best true crime show ever
You can really tell they put a lot of efforts in making the segments, the way they shot the early episodes made the show both creepy and captivating to watch, but the show wouldn't be half as good without Robert Stack

Yes, it told a great story rather than just presenting the facts quickly then moving onto the next case, perhaps at times this has led to artistic licence on their part but it meant the segments were more like watching an atmospheric crime thriller than some loud film with explosions.

i think that the main difference between UM and AMW or other true crime shows is that UM was creepier... the music, the darker and grainier look and Mr. Stack himself...it had the same feeling that those thriller and mystery shows of the 70s but with real stories.
