Music Why was Mr. Belding absent from 13 episodes?

There were the six Malibu Sands episodes, where I guess Mr. Carusi replaced Mr. Belding as being the authority figure for the gang. Then there were the two Palm Springs episodes, where the gang stays with Jesse's father. Then there were the two Christmas episodes, featuring the homeless girl. The other three was the Rockumentary episode, the mall episode, and the mysery episiode.

Did Dennis Haskins happen to have other commitments for awhile, or did he decide to take a long vacation - so the producers decided to film some experimental episodes, that diverge from the usual theme? As much I enjoyed the experimental episodes, I did find myself missing Mr. Belding. I thought it would've been interesting for Mr. Belding to appear in at least one of the Malibu Sands episodes.

The show as never about Mr. Belding. It was expected that he wasn't going to be in every episode.

Well, it is true that the show is more about Zack Morris and the gang - but, still, Mr. Belding is listed in the opening credits. I just thought it was strange that he was gone for almost half of season three, so I figured that maybe something came up for Dennis Haskins. One of the notes in TV.com even mentioned that the 13 Belding-less episodes were filmed in a row. I can't really fatham the producers saying, "Sorry, Dennis, we don't want you for the next 13 episodes." I figure it must be some kind of a mutual decision that was made, like maybe Dennis Haskins wished to spend more time with his family.

You're looking waytoo much into it. The writers didn't want him in those episodes, so he simply wasn't in them.

I guess you're right! It just seemed strange to me, though, since Dennis Haskins was in the opening credits and all.

That happened in a lot of shows. The actors were still credited in the opening credits, but weren't seen in the episode.

Dennis more than made up for his 13 episodes off, by doing "The New Class" for 143 episodes and he was in all of them, lol.

I will admit that it's odd that they shot 13 in a row without him. The Malibu Sands episodes, I understand because it's set during their Summer vacation.

Well I just got off the phone with Dennis Haskins and he told me that he couldn't stand working with all those teens. That around the third season, they became too much of a pain to him and he asked to be released from the show. They made a compromise and let him out of thirteen, giving him a break from all those hormones and big egos. And if he wasn't typecast as Mr. Belding already, he wouldn't have even considered doing "The New Class."

That was simply a lie to be funny, lol. I didn't really call Dennis Haskins up. Laugh, I tell you, laugh!

i agree with u. but still, the kids cant be with there principle all the time. i Evan think there over doing it with Mr. Belding working in the mall with the kids in the new class.
