Rick's Paternity Suit

In A&E's Biography of "Ozzie and Harriet: The Adventures of America's Favorite Family" they state that Rick had a child outside of wedlock and was ordered to pay child support. Does anyone know what happened to this child? How old would he or she be?

I remember that too! I have no idea though about the age of the child or if it was during his marriage or not.

On May 8, 1980, radio stations celebrated Rick's 40th birthday with a retrospective of his songs. In April, he had been in the studio recording what would be his last album, "Playing to Win." Also, he and his wife, Kris, were redecorating their new home, in which, she would inform her father that moving there would save her marriage. In May, Rick flew to New Jersey for a concert where he met a woman, a stranger, and when his concert dates where over back to the studio, which the aforementioned album wasn't released. Sadly, later that year he and his wife permanently separated.
For detailed reading warts and all there are three biographies about the late Rick Nelson that includes this sensitive incident: "Idol for a Generation," by Joel Selvin, 1990; "Teenage Idol," by Phillip Bashe, 1991; and "Lonesome Town: the real story of America's favorite family," by Jim Brady, published 2005. In this book states that the late Rick's out-of-wedlock son born in 1981 lives in with his ailing mother, and has no contact with the Nelson family.

The Basche & Selwin biographies were very illuminating--I must go back and read them again. Haven't read the Brady one. Thanks for all the great info in your post--I always like learning more abt the Nelson's!

And I think I read where she showed up at one of his concerts with the baby, after Rick had denied it. And she held up the baby for him to see. And a paternity test later proved Rick the father as a result of the 1 night stand.
