it used to be that, with shows every week, with some off for a few weeks, it was easier to note the passage of time. If X is grounded for 2 weeks in one episode, and in the next they're allowed to go out again, it was probably a little easier to accept that the next episode took place over 2 weeks later, even if it only aired a week later. Same with something more implied, like Sam selling the bar and being gone for what, 6 months, a year? Definitely more months than there were beteween seasons 5 and 6 on "Cheers."
That, in turn, can mean some things can seem like goofs without an internal calendar telling you that "this is supposed to take place at this time." Are these things harder for you to accept with syndication/DVDS? Is it just more jarring but you can pick up on it quickly? Or, what? Edit: I decided to add an opition at the end becasue there might be some younger board members who dont' watch first run shows, but only watch on Nick, TVLand, or DVDs. (Frankly, with the quality of shows now, if I were a parent that would be my kids; i haven't watch a first run show in well over a decade.) So, if you are one of those who has never seen one like that, it might be harder for you to figure what it would be like to have a week or two between episodes, though you can certainly vote for one of the others, too, if you think you can form a good opinion about what it would have been like that. I remember one younster on a yahoo group 3-4 years back who wasn't quite clear on what a season was. Had to be really young, maybe 8-9, but that is a concept that - unless you get them in DVDs - does get lost watching in syndication. |
