Default Beaver's Pets

Ward and June tried hard to be great parents. The mistakes they made in some of their decisions showed they were human.

They were kind of weird when it came to pets. The boys had Captain Jack and Ward was impressed that they could be responsible. They eventually had to take him to the alligator farm (understandable). Then Ward and June got them a puppy named Captain Jack to replace their loss. We never saw the dog again.

After that I need some clarification. Beaver got a monkey and then he found a chihuahua. Somewhere along the line Ward made a comment that they had to give Captain Jack away because Beaver didn't take care of it.

I thought it was unusual that parents would give away a family pet that they bought because young children couldn't do all the work. Usually a parent steps in and takes care of the pet and pretty soon the kids grow up and do more. Many kids beg for a pet and promise that they would do all the work, but they don't. It seemed pretty cold to just "give the dog away."

When Beaver found the chihuahua the parents stated he couldn't keep it. Beaver became more and more attached to the dog, and even named her. When the lady came to claim her, Ward and June said it was too bad Beaver couldn't keep the dog. Talk about mixed messages!

Does anyone have any more information about the Cleaver pets?

Maybe Ward and June didn't want more pets because they already had a Beaver in the house.

Default Pets

Beaver had:
A rabbit named Henry, which turned out be a Henrietta
A rat named Peter Gunn
He had pigeons and was in a pigeon club with Larry and Whitey
Beaver and Wally get jobs helping clean at the circus and receive a horse as payment.
Beaver, Richard and Glbert become co owners of a burro named Pepe.
And on Pet Day at school, Beaver doesn't have a pet, at first Ward buys him a hamster, then eventually rents him a parrot. Not sure what happened to the hamster.

Thanks, Torgo. I do remember those now that you mentioned them!
