Default Thinking of doing my first blind buy on DVD and wanted to know some things

Is the Gomer character the same as he was on Andy Griffith? I enjoyed his character on that show and was wondering was he more GOOFY or less GOOFY on his own show? I saw that the six seasons the show was on the air, it was in the Top 5 four times out of six seasons. I haven't seen the show since the mid 80's on a local station in Philadelphia and can't even remember the theme song. So any information on how silly the Gomer character is would be appreciated

Isn't he being yelled at in the opening credits while marching? I think that's what I remember from my foggy memory of this show

Gomer Pyle USMC is a good show. It's actually a lot better than the Andy Griffith Show. Andy Griffith is way overrated in my opinion. Be careful though if buying the Gomer Pyle DVD's. They did a nice job with season one, but season two is cheaply put together. Season two is a bare bones release and a few episodes are cut.

Well i don't think edits would matter in this case because it's a show i never seen before so I would accept the cuts.

I liked the show, & Sgt. Carter is a real treat to watch. Gomer is still pretty much the same as he was in the Andy G. Show, but a little funnier.

GOMER is a good show, and a fun time to watch, but sometimes the whole Marines thing gets to me simply because it's so far-fetched for such a hillbilly to have ended up in the Marines. I suppose that was the point, but if they would've made a GOMER show with just him living in a small town other than Mayberry (possibly with a wife and kids), it would've been a more plausible concept. Maybe he could've ran the local convenience store or something (imagine PETTICOAT JUNCTION's and GREEN ACRES' Drucker's ran by a more offbeat southerner). But still, when you get past that hurdle, it's still a great show, but some episodes stand-out more than others (such as "Survival of the Fattest"). Some seem a little bit too much like THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW (Gomer's standoffishness towards women is alot like Andy Taylor's affliction towards resuming dating, now being a widower), however. I also bought GOMER PYLE, USMC--- THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON as a blind buy, but it is definately worth the money. Jim Nabors' wholesome introductions is what sells it for me (which I've pointed to in previous posts), which give the DVD set a good, southern feel. And I'm speaking as a New Yorker. Great set for a great show, but I'm hesitant at buying the sloppily put-together "The Second Season."

Gomer Pyle was a great show. I remember watching it in reruns in the early 70's when we were actually living on a Marine base. It used to come on about the time you heard the National Anthem play outside which meant they were taking the flag down. Memories.

Was the SGT yelling at Gomer in the opening credits? And the closing credits?

He was yelling in the opening credits. The closing credits just showed the outside of the barracks.
