the first 8 seasons were pure genius for the most part....WAY better than ANY ep of say, Family Guy, but, after 20 years, the cracks are sure to be showing in ANY show. Start with the early years, and work your way up.
I think WHEN the show started going downhill depends on the person, for me, it was the year that began with the death of Maude Flanders....that seemed like a real "Shark Jump" to me, when they had to drum up interest in the show by killing off a semi-regular. ( I forget which season that was...anyone know? ...Zoneboy?

Maude was killed off in season 11 in Alone Again Naturadiddly, and there are a lot of people that don't like the Simpsons because they've only seen episodes from current seasons and it's no secret the Simpsons has had declining quality for some time, before you judge I'd watch episodes from seasons 3 - 8 which is what I consider the golden age

Definitely when the show was in its prime, it ruled all. I say after 1996 was the period where it started getting off track for me. There are some episodes after that period that I enjoy a lot, but as far as the seasons go, I don't enjoy the recent seasons as much as before that time period. The Simpsons is really just a show that is running far past its prime. They were really creative at the beginning.

On the other hand, Ive been watching a lot of recent eps lately, and, they are still pretty good, i think the real prob is that compared to the vintage eps, ANY show would have a hard time competing , but, for the Simpsons, the problem is made worse by having to compete with themselves!

I figured it out from the way she phrased her post. She talked abt mixed reviews and she hadn't "seen it yet". So, it couldn't be the series she is talking abt. I agree, it didn't state MOVIE, which makes it confusing.
