Oh No 'Price' Wrong for Foul-Mouthed Carey?

Link

Drew Carey is no Bob Barker. The first word Carey said to the audience during the taping for the first episode of his new prime-time CBS game show "The Power of 10," was the f-word. Yes, that f-word.

Of course, the comedian-turned-host was just joking off-camera. He had received a syrupy-sweet introduction from executive producer Michael Davies before stepping out onto the glowing game show set and was sarcastically dismissing the lovefest.

He later apologized once he realized there was a child, the brother of one of the contestants, in the front row.

A little later, during a three-hour "Power of 10" shoot at the Kaufman Astoria Studios, Carey made an off-camera joke about his, um, anatomy.

Barker probably never made such references during his 35 years at "The Price is Right," which Carey also has been tabbed to host.

Still, the audience seemed to warm up to Carey – or at least want to.

At the $1 million point in the "Millionaire"-style game, which debuts Tuesday on CBS, Carey – who doesn't know the answers to the questions in advance – attempted to dissuade a confused contestant from taking his go-for-it advice by saying, "Don't listen to me. I already have a million dollars."

Is he going to shrug off "Price is Right" contestants by telling them that he's already got a refrigerator, grandfather clock, trip to Mexico and a brand-new car?

Perhaps the biggest red flag was Carey's shocked reaction when an older woman in the "Power of 10" audience revealed that she taped "The Price is Right" every day.

If he doesn't realize how devoted those viewers are, the biggest fear about Carey as the new "Price" host may have already come true: He has no idea what he's gotten himself into.

Still, we must watch TPIR and give Drew a chance to see what he can do as far as hosting the show is concerned. He'll stay if we like him hosting the show, otherwise, and I don't care what Brian says about this host, we have a certain someone else to fall back on, who's experienced enough to do the show.

Drew Carey was always more "R Rated" in his standup act and in his personal life than he is on TV, but I think he is professional enough to keep it clean in front of an audience on TPIR.

I love how already some folks in the media are saying that Drew can't do it.

They said the same thing about Jay Leno when he took over the Tonight Show.

Oh my my. Already trying to hang the poor man who hasn't even done TPIR yet.

When he did WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAYS, he was great. He hosted that show very well and did it waaaay better than the british version of that show. Carey's version was very funny, very upbeat and he was hilarious.

I think Carey will know what to say, not what to say and so forth. If you know Carey, you will know what kind of humor he has and that is his style. Accept it or don't.

i think TPIR fans need to give Drew Carey a chance. give him time, remember when Rich Fields took over for the Late Rod Roddy, people weren't use to him at first. look at him, now. they love him. stuff like this takes time. it took time with Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek. so,i'm just saying give Carey time!

I've really never liked Rich Fields that much.

I agree. I can't wait to see him host it!

Not to mention that Bob Saget and Howie Mandel are known for their raunchy comic acts and they keep it out of the game shows they host. It was also the same way with Penn Jilette and Identity. I don't see how or why Drew would handle it differently. In interviews he has said the show should be treated with respect, and he's certainly not being raunchy or out of control on The Power of 10 either. And I'm pretty sure if he ever did want to act a fool on TPiR, CBS and Fremantle Media wouldn't allow it.
