Default What actor or actress caused their show to go downhill because of ego???

Unfortunately, Linda Lavin was the cause of Alice going downhill because of her jealously of Polly Holliday (especially her) and Diane Ladd. After Polly's departure from Alice Diane Ladd had the potential of the show picking up where Polly left but again Linda Lavin was not nice to her and she wanted out. The show was not quite the same again because Jolene I did not care for and the show suffered from it.

Too Close for Comfort had some stuff going on as well from Nancy Dussault not being happy with the way her character, Muriel Rush, was not developed during the first season so they made her pregnant in the following season. In the third season she made her views known about the show publicly and Ted Knight was not happy with it. They did not quite get along on the show. From what I understood Ted was a difficult person to deal with.

Redd Foxx's battle with the producers and his walking out caused Sanford and Son to suffer. The show was never the same after he came back. Before his walkout the show was hitting its stride and was quite funny to watch.

Wayne Rogers quit M*A*S*H after numerous encounters with the shows producers over his character, lines, pay, etc. He resurfaced in House Calls which became another hit for CBS, but, once again Rogers fought with producers, and the show was dropped.

Well many would say Suzanne Somers on Three's Company, as that show just never was the same after she left.

Also, Delta Burke on Designing Women is a case where her issues lead to the show sliding down and never really recovering.

Personally I enjoyed the Priscilla Barnes years better on 3's Company because it was more intelligent and not so jiggly as before. Plus those years brought Janet out even more.

Designing Women was shot after Delta Burke left as well as Jean Smart.

I agree, Delta leaving sent that show on a downward sprial, of which it never recovered, but the exit of Jean Smart REALLY killed it.. Judith Ivey was a step in the right direction; but it was too little, too late by that time

It's no secret that Roseanne was always at odds with the writers and producers of her hit sitcom "Roseanne" there were constant changes made to her behind the scenes staff, plus bringing in her doofus husband (at the time) Tom Arnold to help run things when he had no experience probably made her very popular with the cast and crew.

^ I was going to mention Roseanne - how about Drew Carey?? I think he had quite a bit to do with those horrible plots those last few years of the Drew Carey Show. Just because you're the star of a show doesn't mean you should be in other positions of power on the set.

Valerie Harper on "Valerie/Valerie's Family/Hogan Family." She made it through one season before she had to be killed off.

I actually think the show was better when she left.

I don't even remember the show when Valerie Harper was in it, just the Sandy Duncan era. Why was Valerie written off her own show, anyway??

Yea it was something like that. I know they all went to court over it. It made headlines but I forget how it ended.
