Having already created half a dozen real American Idols, Simon Cowell now wants to make a fake one. The “American Idol” judge and producer is looking at spinning out into motion pictures with a fictionalized movie version of an “American Idol” competition as seen through the eyes of ten contestants who battle it out for the title.
The project name is Star Struck, which Cowell says is inspired by Alan Parker’s Fame: ”Fame was all about young people wanting to be famous, and in order to do that, they enrolled in a drama school. The difference 25 years later is that everyone who wants to be famous today signs up for 'American Idol.’” Don’t expect to see Lindsay Lohan or the Olsen twins playing those contestants however. Cowell believes it is essential to the project to cast unknowns that the audience can really get behind without attributing them to other performances. That’s why the movie will follow in the footsteps of “American Idol” by holding open auditions in major cities early next year, with highlights from the auditions opening the movie. So, wait a minute, did this just become a reality movie? The story, which is being run by both Variety and Hollywood Reporter, mentions TV writer Jonathan Harvey working on a script, but if they are going for authenticity, I can’t help but wonder how much of this will be scripted. It sounds like we’re getting “American Idol” the documentary instead of Star Struck the movie. Casting is planned for early next year (Cowell will be present at the auditions) and the film is expected to role out next summer. Please, for the love of movies, please keep Justin and Kelly as far away from this as possible. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Ameri...ovie-5971.html |

Didn't they sorta do that already? That spoof movie that had Mandy Moore and Hugh Grant? I dont know maybe this is different.
But if you add American Idol and movies you always get something great. Look at the Fantasia Barrino story. I think that's actually airing tonight on Lifetime TV. |

BTW: thanks for the tip on the Fantasia Barrino story. I've been wanting to catch it but I'm so bad with times and channels and such. |
