Default Nasty fall at the x games

did anybody hear about this

here's the video it's a very ugly nasty fall so if you don't think u can handle it
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7v-v721Qc...d&search=

Bob Burnquist was ready to give up the first medal of X Games 13 on Thursday night at Staples Center.

Jake Brown lie motionless on the bottom of the skateboard Big Air ramp, holding the lead with only Burnquist having the opportunity to become the first skateboarder other than Danny Way to win the event.

Brown went down after trying to orient his body after successfully completing a 720-degree spin. He landed feet-first from the top of the quarterpipe, crumpling to the ground. He walked off the ramp, but was later taken by ambulance to a hospital for observation.

"I'm looking down, and I kept thinking he was dead," Burnquist said. "If he did not get up and walk away, I wasn't going to take a run. I was going to let him take the gold. But when he got up and he appeared all right, I figured I might as well go for it."

Burnquist made his run down the 80-foot roll-in. He did a switch backside 180 ollie, not using his hands to hold the board, and finished with a frontside 540 to edge Brown for gold. He scored a 95.66 to Brown's 95.33, which he accomplished on his third of five runs. Pierre-Luc Gagnon finished third with a 93.00.

"I know I had to do the frontside 540 because that would be the only trick to take it," Burnquist said of the victory. "It's a real blind trick and I knew I had to go for it. I figured what happens, happens. I just had to go for it."

Burnquist was the odds-on favorite to win gold. Brown won silver last year, but Burnquist has since built a megaramp on his Vista property.

Brown and Gagnon, who are best friends and Carlsbad neighbors, are currently building their own megaramp.

Brown had never completed a 720, not even on Burnquist's ramp, and he had the lead going into the final run. If he had landed the moves, he would have been the certain winner.

"I think he got lost on his rotation," Gagnon said. "All that spinning. I'm not sure he knew where he was."

He fell from the top of the quarterpipe, 45 feet to the bottom. He lay motionless until paramedics finally rolled him over two minutes later, then walked off the ramp, with a lot of help, eightminutes after the fall. He sat for several minutes after the contest against a wall and was wheeled by stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

"I was kind of panicky at first," Gagnon said. "Seriously, I thought he was dead. Or he broke his back. Or he broke both legs. I didn't know."

Both Burnquist and Gagnon said it was the worst fall they had seen, and Burnquist said he had never seen anyone fall to the bottom.

"He got the worst case of whiplash I've seen," Gagnon said. "Luckily, I had just done my run. If I had to go, I don't think I could have.

"You think what could have happened to (BMX rider) Stephen (Murray) at the Dew Tour (who was paralyzed in an accident) and you think that it could have happened to Jake."

Brown's second-place run was one spin less than the one he got hurt on. He did a 360-spin ollie off the 70-foot gap into a McTwist540.

Wow.

This year's X Games is the first I've watched since they took out the street luge - my favorite event - several years ago, and this is the 2nd rather nasty hit I've seen due to someone trying a trick that was just a little bit too much for them. I thought Scott Murray's crash while trying the double backflip during Best Trick looked rough, but that was nothing compared to this. Eesh.

I saw it on tv earlier. They played it over and over, but I could only watch it once. It's nothing short of a miracle that he survived, or isn't paralyzed. He had an angel on his shoulder. Still, a severe case of whiplash can lead to terrible problems down the road, but maybe he'll be lucky there too. I have severe neck problems, and I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Frankly, I havent much sympathy for these "X-ers" or "Extreme sportmen"...they do really stupid and dangerous things for the "thrill" of it, then wind up getting hurt; seems like they get what they asked for.
( Not that I want anyone to get hurt , especially severely, but, they bring it on themselves )

When they showed that last night on our news channel, the newscaster said, "His mother should have a talk with him." I agree.
