Sad Really worried about my cat

My cat has been acting weird all day. Well, first off, let me explain--All day yesterday I didn't see him around. He's an outdoor cat, so he likes to spend most of the day hanging around in the bushes or in various places, but he does come in a lot for his meals and bed time (in my bedroom, of course). Well, yesterday I kept calling him to come in for his meals but I didn't see any sign of him. That is, until late last night when I saw him laying underneath my Dad's truck. I called him, but he didn't immediately jump up right away (which I thought was strange at first because he usually does move when I call him). He finally came in on his own after some more urging.

Fast forward to today--he's been rather lethargic all day long. He plopped down right next to my dog's water dish and didn't really make any attempt to get up, so I brought him in to my room to lay on my bed. Again, he laid there pretty much all day. I had to work today, so I had my brother come over to keep an eye on him and make sure he ate and drank some water (which he did, and he also did so again a few hours ago when I brought the food to him).

I'm really worried...it's not like him to be so lethargic and not moving around. He's still eating (which is good), but I'm becoming alarmed at how much he's just laying around and not walking about. He doesn't appear to have a limp or any noticeable marks that would indicate he got hurt in a fight or something.

I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow if it persists, but I'd like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar with their cats and if it turned out ok in the end. I'm just so worried for my baby

Could it be the heat? It's good you're taking him to a Vet. The fact that he's eating and drinking water is a very good sign.

I really hope it's the heat He has no other symptoms that I know about--he'll still eat and drink if I put the bowls in front of him. He's not crying or meowing at all, and as far as I know, he's gone to the bathroom within the last 24 hours (he goes outside, so I'm not entirely sure on that one). I'm just worried because he's acting so sluggish (and he's normally so animated).

I'm so scared

You are probably right to be alarmed. Animals like to hide any trouble until it's really serious. In the wild it serves them well. As pets, it keeps them from getting the help they need before it gets too serious.

The vet will be able to tell you for sure.

Sad

Well, I have bad news...the vet said my cat has feline diabetes. I'm going to have to give my little guy 2 shots of insulin a day. My head is just spinning with all of this...between what sort of stuff is to come and how expensive it's going to be My cat deserves the very best treatment, though, and thankfully I've qualified for a Care Credit card so I can pay it off monthly.

Please continue to keep my cat in your thoughts Thanks, guys.

Awww....I hope your kitty is doing okay, Kristel. It sounds like he knows something is wrong with him and is just not feeling up to anything anymore. Animals tend to forthcoming events. I just hope he'll get better.

Good for you for looking after your cat

I hope that this is something you can treat relatively inexpensively and that she fully recovers.

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. The vet called a little while ago and said that Brody appears to be taking to the insulin well, and is even looking a little better I am happy about that. I hope he continues to get better...I dunno what I'd do without my cat

I dealt with a dog like that when I worked at the vet clinic and as long as he had his shots, he was perfect. I know it can be expensive, but at least it's very treatable. I hope everything goes well for you!

Oh my gosh sweetie. I am sorry to hear this. I was hoping it wouldn't be anything bad. Wow, diabetes. What a shame. On the other hand, at least the problem has been diagnosed and there is treatment for your pet. I was worried thinking that maybe the cat had been poisoned or eaten something it shouldn't have. I hope nothing but the best and know that my prayers are with you.

Wow, that's definitely a relief...I'm glad it seems to be something treatable. Thanks, hun!

And, Irene, thank you for keeping me in your thoughts
