Default Lowell and Roy Playing Chess

I was watching an episode, I believe it was "Mother Wore Stripes" from season two. Anyways, the opening scene was Lowell and Roy playing chess. They're both sitting there, Roy is staring at Lowell and finally asks if he's going to move or not. Lowell says he didn't know it was his turn. Roy then says something like they were waiting for a half and hour and Lowell didn't even know it was his turn.

Well that's an amusing scene, but I got thinking. WHY IN THE WORLD ARE LOWELL AND ROY PLAYING CHESS TOGETHER? lol They're such opposites and yet they sit down at the airport and just play a game of chess? lol

Who do you think went up to the other person with the chess set and said "You wanna play some chess?" Lowell or Roy?

This is meant to be a humorous thread. I'm not ranting or anything.

Yeah, it did seem kind of odd.

Lowell could of had the chess set, and Roy could have bet that he could beat him at a few rounds.

Furthermore, how does Lowell even KNOW how to play chess? (I really don't!) I mean, he's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, LOL. Knowing Roy he prob. made a bet with Lowell, and figured he could make a quick buck. That's prob. how it happened.

I remember that scene I think Roy really enjoyed being with Lowell and the others. He just never admits it. He's really a softee

That was one of the strangest moments on the show. I could see Roy maybe playing chess with Joe, but certainly not with Lowell.

And that was after the classic Trivial Pursuit game. Which makes even less sense that Roy would sit down and play ANY game with Lowell, lol.

Not only are they playing, but unless I'm mistaken, there was no one else in the airport. It's just the two of them, like after hours.

A lot of the opening scenes are just a chance to get a single joke in before the opening credits, whether they make sense or not.

I think Roy must have been REALLY bored to want to play chess with Lowell.

Even though it was strange, I still thought it was a funny scene. Lowell and Roy were two of my favorite characters and I always enjoyed their scenes together.

Only recently did I come to appreciate Roy. I’ve always disliked his character, however, now I love him. He was so funny and I don’t know why I didn’t see it before. Anytime you get Roy and Fay together, you’re in for some laughs. Oddly enough, they’re two characters you won’t find on the DVD covers.

Lowell, however, has always been my favorite character.

Of the core cast (Joe, Brian, Helen, Lowell, Roy, Fay, Antonio) there's not a weak link in the bunch. They're all great.

Hopefully they'll be on the Season 5 cover though I wouldn't be surprised if we see Alex on the cover and not them.

My favorite characters seem to change every few years. Joe and Brian were my favorites for a few years but recently, I've begun to appreciate the supporting characters alot more, even though I've always liked them.

You can't really say that about too many shows either. I mean usually theres at least one character on a show that people aren't too fond of.

I just saw the season 5 cover art at amazon and the only ones on the cover are Joe, Helen, Brian and Alex.

I just looked at it now, too, and I don't know if that's the actual cover, b/c it says "Discs one and two," so it might just be for that case. *Shrugs* I don't think I like the idea of Alex being on the cover, much as I like her. Esp. since this is her last season, unless you count "Ex, Lies and Videotape."

Yeah, but that probably wouldn't have been as funny.

Yeah, they finally posted the real cover art at tvshowsondvd.com.

I'm glad that Alex isn't on the cover but it sucks that Roy and Fay aren't on it. I don't know why they can't just put the entire original cast on the cover.
