Default How many drug stores?

It is fun to watch the shows again on TV Land. I watched them on WGN in Chicago at 6:00 every evening when I was a kid, but watching them now with my kids, I see so much more.

Anyway, in the episode "The Bank Job" from 1962, there is a Frankyn's Pharmacy (I think that was the spelling) across the street from the bank. Of course, Walker's Drug Store was probably only about 1/2 block away. There must have been some competition in town.

Did they ever explain Ellie Walker's departure? I know she came to help her uncle, but like a lot of characters in a lot of shows, she is never mentioned again.

Did Opie work at Walker's Drug Store in the episode where he broke the perfume bottle and saved up to buy a replacement, not knowing the display was just colored water?

I don't think they ever explained Ellies departure.

But; I know what happened to her in the 70s; though. She moved into an apt. in New York where Oscar Madison and Felix Unger-known as "THE ODD COUPLE" lived-and she became Felixes girlfriend!! And they all lived happily on ABC on Friday nights! (TAGS was on CBS)

Seriously, though, I don't remember any episodes where Opie worked there. But if he was old enough to work; it sounds like the color eps.-and I don't watch those.

Treky's right, It was one of the color episodes that aired near the end of the series run.

#239 Opie's Drugstore Job 01-15-68

In this episode, Opie worked for Mr. Crawford.

I caught about the last 10 minutes of an episode, and there was a reference to yet another drug store!

In the episode, Wally was out of town, so Gomer was in charge of the "fillin' station". Someone had been stealing tools, etc from the station, so Barney sets up a camera so that it takes a picture of whoever comes through the door.

He says that he is going to take the film to Mrs. Mason's drug store to have the film developed. Are Mrs. Mason or that drug store ever mentioned again?

Ellie appeared in 12 episodes in the first season. Her disappearance was never explained to the viewer. Poof! out of sight, out of mind. The drug store was never mentioned again either. Ellie and guitar player Jim Lindsey (Jim Best) both made their last appearances in the same episode. I like to think they hit it off and left Mayberry together for greener pastures.

ah yes; the old days when you had to take the film to a drug store to be developed; then go back later to get the pictures; meanwhile wondering how they turned out.

Maybe "Mrs. Masons drug store" was "Walkers drug store" but it was bought by someone else and renamed.

well; as for Ellie; she got in a time machine; transported herself to New York in the 70s where she changed her name to Mirriam; and moved into an apt. upstairs from Felix Unger and Oscar Madison.

Hi.
I noticed that you were a fan of The Andy Griffith Show, and I wanted to let you know about a book that is coming out next month called "Close-Ups:Conversations with Our TV Favorites". In it, Elinor Donahue and Keith Thibodeaux (Johnny Paul Jason) are interviewed and they talk alot about the show, Miss Ellie's departure, etc. Elinor also talks about being on The Odd Couple. The book info is available at BearManor Media.com, and I thought you might be interested in it.

Thanks

Definitely a different location from Walker's Drug Store, but I suppose Mr. Crawford bought out Walker or Mayberry was able to support several drug stores, including Franklyn's and Mason's.

Or, by 1968, Crawford's had put the others out of business.
