Johnny Depp gets Rights to "Dark Shadows" - Wants to Play Barnabas Collins - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Saying he always has been obsessed with the TV vampire soap from the 1960s "Dark Shadows," Johnny Depp, through his Infinitum-Nihil company is partnering with Warner Bros. and Graham King's GK Films to make a film based on the long-popular series.

Depp adds that since he was a child he wanted to play the role of Barnabas Collins, the head vampire in the series.

Years after its final episode, the series still enjoys a strong cult following that continue to attend the various events and festivals dedicated to the show.

The show had all sorts of evil characters and creatures in it. In addition to vampires, it had ghosts, witches, numerous monsters, zombies and werewolves.

Dan Curtis, who through Dan Curtis Productions owned the rights to the films, died last year, and the rights deal with his estate has now been closed by the companies. Curtis was the creator of the series.

Depp just finished up filming of "Sweeney Todd," and his next project should be starring in "Shantaram," based on the Gregory David Roberts novel.

I cannot believe so many of you think a Generation X yuppie like Depp will be any match for anyone anywhere who lived before the a-bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. If no one from the awful original Dark Sadows has anything to do with this new project maybe Depp won't get nightmares from playing in it! It should be terrible but at least it won't be as frighteneing as theorigianl was just to star in or work with the original actors in other projects.

I cant wait to see Johnny Depp play Barnabas!!I think he willbe great in the role if it's anything like what he did in Sweeney Todd.
