I really like this episode. Katie wants to see KISS so badly that she'll deceive everyone around her that she cares about in order to go.
I cracked up when you see the Governor finally give in and tell her he'll take her to the concert. "If Jerry Brown (whoever that's supposed to be) can stand that stuff, so can I!" And then later when he tells her it's time to go, he's wearing a suit and she's wearing a nice dress. (I can't see ANYONE showing up at a KISS concert dressed like that. )They said Missy could cry on cue but she seemed to struggle a bit with this one towards the end, when Benson tells her he's disappointed in her. It did seem a bit forced but not terrible by any means. The one thing my sister and I agreed on was at the very end, when Benson tried to explain what happened to the Governor, the Governor seemed to let him off the hook too easily. In reality most people in his situation would be royally pissed and Benson could have possibly lost his job over that but obviously the Governor respected Benson so much that he was willing to just let it lie. At any rate, I wonder what the guys in KISS thought of being mentioned in the show.

I liked this ep - they were still 'fleshing out' the characters and everyone was already working well together. I was a little surprised at the very end when the Governor was so understanding ("Trust me") with Benson, but that was pretty cool anyway.
And can I just say how incredibly awesome it is to be able to see the FULL episode, where there's still a few minutes left even AFTER the initial 'end credits'. That confused me at first (why show the end credits and then still have the ep continue?) and must have confused others as well, as they stop showing the end credits until true "end" a few episodes later (second DVD, I believe). Good stuff. |

I wonder if the scene where Benson confronts Katie about her complete like of trustworthiness was taped all in one shot or if it was cut right before Katie realizes Benson's total dissappointment in her to give Missy time to work up the tears and make her face all red and then completed. Being able to cry on demaned is a great asset for any actor the method most of them use to bring on tears and emotional distress is to think of the saddest thing imaginable like losing a pet or something. But being able to start a scene all bubbly cracking a joke about being able to jump higher than a table because tables can't jump and then going directly into a huge emotional part all in one shot and coming too tears would be quite a accomplisment for any young actress but I guess we will never know how that scene was shot back in the day.

That's a good question. If you pay close enough attention you can notice a lot of scenes in various episodes where there seemed to be a break in the filming and it wasn't all filmed in one take but rather edited together. It's usually someone's hair that looks different from scene to scene or some other physical attribute (like clothing) that changes a bit.
But in this scene I'm not sure. I'll have to rewatch it.

It appeared to me that Gold was trying really hard (maybe a little TOO hard) to cry at first - it didn't look real (to me anyway). But once they cut to Benson and then BACK to Gold, well those tears sure looked pretty real. Anyone else notice that?

Well, I would have given Benson more of a lecture, as his orders were that Katie not be allowed out period -- except for an emergency. But since things turned out OK, he could afford to be easygoing about it.
But the way Benson caved in after the other staff members got on his case didn’t feel right to me; after *he’s* the one responsible for her, not them; I would told them to stuff it, she's staying home! Also didn’t feel right that Gene didn’t have a private plane; he’s the Governor, that plane can wait until he is darn good and ready! That would be like the limo ditching him at the curb b/c he didn’t get to it on time -- that wouldn’t happen, so this didn’t seem realistic either. |

2 -- Trust Me.
What kind of music did KISS did/do? I wouldn’t take children to concerts anyway. “You are to remain in this house until I return.” How hard is that to understand? But then there wouldn’t be an episode... To answer Marcy: if the governor were there, *he* would decide. Since he’s not, stick to what he said! Yeah, this ticks me. Jerry Brown was the Governor of California when this ep was shot. He was also mentioned in an episode of Quincy, M.E. Like BensonFan said. Thanks, Marcy, for facing the music with me. Not! I must admit, I’m more of a Denise fan. My fave line(s): Kraus – For you? I wouldn’t cross the street for you! *** Must get used to seeing more stuff *after* the credits! :-D |

I've always felt Benson would've been a good father. Actually, he really was a father figure...not just to the Gatlings but the Tates as well. I like how he taught Katie a lesson - he didn't yell at her, or spank her. He just spoke quietly and honestly, and it worked. Good episode!
Here's another interesting thing about this episode - it first aired on ABC the night of Thursday, September 20, 1979. That's the night I was born!!

Seriously though, you're right...he knew how to make his feelings known to Katie in a way that she would be sure to remember. Lesson well learned!

I just saw the episode of Trust and I do not think that Katie should have upset Benson the way she did by going to see Kiss.
