Post "SoHo Blues" -- more of it

(Word of advice: read the other first!! if you didn't, here's just a quick little update: nat's in SoHo in 1990 working on her autobiography one morning when tootie calls with some huge news)

"Jo pregnant?" Natalie asked.
"Natalie, I've said that already. Aren't you listening?" Tootie asked her best friend.
Natalie nodded, then realized nodding wouldn't do well on a phone conversation. "Yes," she answered.
"She found out she's four months!" Tootie said, "and the baby's due in July. It's going to be a boy."
"So what did Beverly Ann say?" Natalie asked, wondering what Mrs. Garrett's chattery sister had to say about news like this.
"She was really shocked and she said she had to call Mrs. G today, although if she wanted to call her tomorrow... or something like that. But that's not even topping the other news!"
"What's the other news?" Natalie asked.
"I can't tell you all in 1 phone call...there's a lot! Why not visit us because we haven't seen you in two years?"
"I was thinking of visiting in a week," Natalie answered.
"Come now!"
"Come today?" Natalie asked. She looked at her clock again: 8:15.
"Get the next train out to Peeskill!"
"Tootie..."
"We'll see you in about an hour and a half, Nat!"
Natalie heard Tootie hang up the phone, then she herself ran to get her suitcase from the closet. It was time to go home. To Peeskill.

"Natalie, it's you!" Tootie ran to get her bags as Natalie stepped off the train. Grabbing the suitcase from her friend, she started right off on talking again.
"So Jo says, 'I'll go get Nat', and Beverly Ann says, 'No, Jo, you're pregnant, and that reminds me, I need to call Edna', so Bev goes off to call Mrs. Garrett while Jo starts telling her all about the fact she has five more months to go and she can go get you, and Blair's at Eastland dealing with some girls who went to the Chugalug Bar last night and so I went off and got you myself because nobody else would get you and..."
Natalie rolled her eyes again. Would Tootie ever stop talking?

"Natalie, I haven't seen you in two years!" Beverly Ann cried.
"I know, Beverly Ann," Natalie answered.
"I'm glad Tootie recommended you came. I had just gotten over an amazing shock when I found out Jo was four months pregnant, and so I decided to call Edna and..."
"I heard the story," Natalie said.
Blair came in then, followed by Jo. "And I told them," Blair was saying, "that the Chugalug Bar was the last place Eastland would take a 'field trip' to. I told them the excuse they gave the police was pretty fake."
"Next to the 'it's the first day back and you meet new people and then it's miller time!' Tootie gave, it's fake," Jo answered back.
"Natalie!" Blair cried.
"Blair!" Natalie answered.
"Hi, Nat," Jo said.
"Congratulations, Jo," Natalie said happily.
"How does everyone around here know I'm pregnant?" Jo asked, "Natalie knows, and I swear I only told Tootie and Bev and..."
"You're pregnant?" Blair asked.
Jo sighed. "Yes."
"I'll have to tell Pippa and Andy. We should have a baby shower. We should..."
"We shouldn't let anyone else know until the mother thinks it's right," Natalie put in, knowing how Jo felt.
"See, even Natalie knows!" Jo said.
"Tootie told me."
"Who is she going to tell next?" Jo asked.
Natalie motioned to Beverly Ann on the phone saying - "Edna, did you hear? Your little Jo's going to have a little Jo!"
"That might be a clue," Natalie answered.

"So, how does this look?" Natalie asked her friends as she showed them her autobiography draft.
"I like it," Blair answered, "but who's the one you're describing with the long blond hair who always looked at herself in the mirror? Wasn't that Sue Ann?"
Tootie, Jo, and Natalie looked at her in fake shock.
"Well, anyway," Blair said, "there is something happening you can't tell Beverly Ann about yet."
"What?"
"I'm - I'm," Blair sighed and started over. "I'm engaged and my wedding's in two months."

More later of it... I have to go now... more tonight!! What do you think?

(the rest! Sorry if it's short: I'm not that great at long fan fics and I write short stories anyway)

There was a quick silence. Natalie looked from Blair to Jo to Tootie then back to Blair. Tootie read through Nat's draft, and Jo sighed and thought how she would tell Rick that she was pregnant.
"I'm speechless," Tootie finally said, "I can't believe it, Blair! You're going to get married!"
"In two months. Don't tell Beverly Ann until then," Blair pleaded, "because she'd think it was one thing that Jo's pregnant, and now me getting married is another."
"You'll have to tell her sooner or later," Natalie said.
"I know. That's the hard part," Blair answered.
"Get it over with," Jo said, "tell it and tell it quickly. That's what I'm going to do when I tell Rick."
Blair smiled and decided to take Jo's advice - which Jo herself hoped would work for telling Rick.

"Beverly Ann," Natalie said, coming in with Tootie, Jo, and Blair, "Blair, uh, has something to tell you."
The chatterbox sister looked up at Blair happily. "Yes?" she asked.
"I'm getting married in two months," Blair said, hoping she wasn't upset.
"Congratulations!" Beverly Ann said, "this calls for a real celebration! I'm going to go call Edna and... well, yesterday I should have called and..."
"Let me help you with time zones," Tootie said, coming over to help Beverly Ann with the phone.

A few days later, Natalie was riding back home, a new draft laying ahead of her. This time it would be the epilogue. She knew Tootie Ramsey had a future in movies back at Eastland and now she was fufilling it. Blair Warner owned Eastland and was getting married. Jo Polniacazek had gotten married and was expecting in four months. She didn't know what Sue Ann, Molly, or Nancy had done. Or Cindy. But she knew Natalie Green lived in SoHo, writing about the best days of her life and still always being with the best friends of her life.

the end

Well, how was it? email or post a reply!
