Default Tidbit About Huxtables' Diet and Theo's Dates

"Depictions of African-Americans must be precisely calibrated to present an image that counteracts the deleterious effects of "Good Times" and "Soul Plane." This is the same logic that led Bill Cosby to micromanage his '80s sitcom down to the most hair-splitting detail: scripts that called for soul-food were changed so that the family was instead dining on lean protein and vegetables, while casting agents had to ensure that Cosby's fictional son didn't date only light-skinned women. Two decades later, the same anxieties exist."

Interesting.

Why would the movie "Soul Plane" be mentioned? And side by side with Good Times, a show that broke barriers and made television history?

I had to look up the word 'deleterious', lol. I had a good idea what it meant, given the context it was used, but I agree Irene, why criticize Good Times, a classic show.

And what makes it "weirder" is that there is a thread on Good Times abt Bill Cosby apparently hating Good Times, The Jeffersons and some other black show. This post just adds to what appears to be some animosity by Bill towards Good Times. I wouldn't even care abt Bill dissing Soul Plane. That is not a movie for him to get his panties in a bunch for.

No Solomon, re-read the first post. It is stating that the casting agents for the Cosby show had to ensure that Theo was seen with NOT ONLY light-skinned actresses, in other words, make sure there were dark-skinned actresses for Theo's dates as well as light-skinned.

Maxine was the lightest of them all. And yeah, there were not that many dark-skinned actresses who played opposite of Theo.
