Default Why Do People Choose to Eat on Dates?

I don't like to eat in front of other people, nor do I like to look at another person eating. And yet, eating out seems to be what most couples want to do on dates. Well besides, you-know-what, But this thread is about eating on dates. lol

Sadly, I speak to you as someone who's never been on a date. So (sounding a little like Seinfeld) What's the deal with eating on dates?

Gives you something to do when the conversation stalls. Plus everyone's gotta eat sometime.

I consider eating a personal matter that I like to do in the privacy of my bedroom without prying eyes. lol.

Of course it doesn't help that I'm VERY picky about food. I hate almost everything. I love pizza and generic restaurant food (plain hamburgers, chicken nuggets, etc...). But like the smell of mustard and ketchup and relish and any other condiment makes me sick (not literally, but I don't like the smell of it). Also, I'm a little like Monk. I don't like to touch my food, so even pizza slices, I eat with a napkin, instead of my bare hands. And Chicken nuggets with a fork. No girl is gonna want to see me eating like that, lol. I'm screwed!

Just chew with your mouth closed and you'll have nothing to worry about. Seriously though, It's highly unlikely that if you do go out to eat, Your date will pay any attention to your eating. I went out to eat last week with 3 friends and I can assure that none of us were watching each other eat.

Anthropologists say that eating together is usually the first step in bonding as a couple, it not only fulfills the most obvious primordial need ( the need to eat ) in all living creatures, but helps to establish a trust between the sexes. the next step is usually the sharing of food; amazingly, this is also well-known in nature, especially in birds who begin by regurgitation feeding each other, then extend the bond, by feeding their offspring, in the same manner.

When I was dating, I never wanted to go for dinner on the first couple of dates. I would do it, but felt uncomfortable. I'd often suggest a movie and a drink afterwards. By the fifth date, I was a chowhound.

I tend to think that if the date is going well it should be long enough that you are hungry anyway.

Women - Us guys know when you order the tiny little salad on the first or second date, that you will be b-lining it for a burger as soon as we drop you off. Just eat, its natural.

However, I wouldn't recommend an all you can eat Rib and sloppy joe marathon ... at least until the 3rd date

It's like that expression, breaking bread. Food and mealtimes are a moment to come together and socialize.

What Adam needs to do is find a girl who also doesn't like watching people eat; that way, it won't seem weird to either one of them and they can have a nice happy date.

Though I admit, watching some people eat is kinda gross. Listening to them is worse though. And I don't necessarily like having people watch me eat, because I'm self-conscious that I'm doing it wrong or something. lol Though no one has ever said anything except that I eat too slow.
