Default Is the TV Show "COPS" staged???-lol

Just asking because it seems like everytime a person runs from the police and darts don the street like lighting, I'm amazed that the camera man can keep up with a heavy Camera-lol Staged???-lol

You'd be surprised at the technology nowadays. Some of those cameras are lightweight and some are strapped to a camera man's waist so when they run, the camera doesn't do a lot of jiggling around.

BTW, my daughter's boyfriend was pulled over in Los Angeles somewhere for a traffic violation, and there was a camera guy there with the cop, they asked him if he would sign a release so they could air that segment on television...he declined.

How is it fake? Those people aren't faking getting pulled over. What abt the earlier COPS segments where they responded to car accidents? Those aren't fake. Or the domestic violence calls, those are certainly not fake or re-enacted.

I really liked COPS from years ago, they showed different scenarios, car accidents, suicides, drug-busts, all kinds of different things. Nowadays it seems like there is always a car chase or foot chase. My boyfriend watches COPS and when I glance over at the tv I see the same old thing, that's boring.

Solomon, I'm a police officer and this past January the "Cops" camera crew went around with us and filmed two episodes. I'm in one of the episodes and I can tell that every call we went on was 100% REAL and absolutely NOTHING was staged. However, just like Irene said - to air what was filmed on TV, they have to get all subjects involved to sign a release statement, so they can't sue the network when they see themselves on TV. We got into a lot the two nights that the film crew was riding with me. The cameras they were using were small, not your average TV camera.

Thank you for your post. I forgot to mention that part abt them having to get you to sign a release is so you can't sue later on. That is why on some episodes of COPS or any other reality show, you may see some people's faces blurred. That is because they either didn't sign a release or they weren't approached. You see blurred faces a lot on that MTV show Jackass.

Don't mix up COPS with CHiPs who always had violations or crimes practically committed right in front of them.

Cops do earn their paychecks. The criminals who think they can run away are stupid if they can't run.

What always amazes me is watching often overweight 40X cops chasing down some athletic 20 year old, and somehow catching him...and even the cameramen cant keep up ! (Impressed)
