do you care much about the beckhams in general? how long do you think they will last in the States? will soccer ever rank alongside baseball, basketball and football in the popularity stakes?

Never happen
Soccer is sooooooo dull...and the few good scoring chances are almost invariably called "offside", not to mention corrupt officials who add extra time that usually seems to have no rhyme or reason, , and all those hooligans that riot in the stands( Maybe cause the game is so boring they need something else to do ) |

It'll never happen. People have been trying to make soccer popular in the U.S. forever. I remember when I was in elementary school. The P.E. Teacher made us play it all the time. I couldn't stand it.

There is a massive European community that absolutely love soccer (personally I think watching paint dry is more exciting). The team sold 80 milion in jerseys in the first month and they paid him 50 mill per year. Pretty good investment. He may bring some fans but for the most part unless you were brought up on soccer it is a pretty boring sport. I cnat see how a 1 -0 game with 10 shots total can be called exciting.

Well, considering that David played only 12 minutes in his first game with the Galaxy tonight, he has a long way to go in impressing us.

yeah, i agree with many of you and plus, you lot did bring up a good point in regards to the scoring system. unlike basketball, football, baseball, soccer isn't a high scoring game and the chances of games ending 3-3, 4-3 or whatever are very slim. very rarely do we get games in soccer where the results end up that way. i think the main reasons as to why beckham went to the US is because of the money, so in truth, because he is hardly that good of a player, a player as famous and of whom isn't that great on the field like himself, doesn't really care about winning trophies, just as long as he rakes in the money. beckham doesn't care about making soccer popular in the States, it is the fact that for him he is getting paid a lot of money so he and his wife can shop till they drop. his previous club real madrid bought him on the basis that he would sell shirts, and thus LA galaxy have gone ahead and done the same thing as well. it is also another reason why many other soccer clubs from europe wouldn't take him. and there i was thinking the UK were the only ones sick of the beckham media circus
