Jury Delivers Guilty Verdict in Cold Case Murder

TOLEDO -- A Lucas County jury has delivered a guilty verdict in a cold case that goes back to 2004. Just after 4:00pm, the jury found 34-year-old Damiene Boles guilty for the murder of 26-year-old Cori Key.

Closing arguments wrapped up in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on Thursday morning, and the jury got the case just before lunch time.

Boles will be sentenced Friday morning by Judge James Jensen.

Police were first called to Key's home in the 1100th block of Oakwood after her father found her body in her bathtub on July 31, 2004.

Prosecutors say the gas in her home was left on, her oven door was left open and candles were lit in her kitchen, suggesting the murderer tried to blow up the house to cover up the crime.

Since no usable prints were found at the scene and there was a lack of anyone else's DNA on Key's body, detectives were not able to make an arrest right away. Cold case detectives arrested Boles in December of 2006 after a witness came forward saying he saw Boles leave Key's house the night of her death.

Key and Boles had been dating for five years and even had a child together.

In court on Wednesday, prosecutors showed videotape of Boles' interrogation, saying his story was inconsistent.
