Default Personal/family "catch phrases" - do you have any?

We all know that a "catch phrase" is designed to make viewers recall characters, or maybe to draw interest. But they do pop up in real life, too, as little inside jokes or just things people are known for saying.

Do any of you have ones from yourself or family that might have made catch phrases were you in a sitcom?

I have several in my experience.

As I mentioned, one of my teachers not only used George Burns' "Say good night, Gracie" but with the name of a student, he also said "thank you for sharing that" in just the right tone and withthe right timing it always brought a smile to me when a student would say something goofy to get attention, or make some whird excuse.

I used that say line and tone a couple times, and it brought a chuckle from the person with me. (Perfect if call someone and a little kid answers and says their mom can't come to the phone 'cause she's takinga bath.)

Another one, one of my cousins was about 4, and one of us jokingly told him upon seeing him that he looked "familiar." (Well, of course, we knew who he was, but just jokingly.) He asked what that meant, and when we explained, he went around saying that to everyone. So, whenever we see him, we will still occasionally say that he "looks familiar."

I think catch phrases can often be said to have roots like the "you look familiar" bit. It's hard to know how much writers think about each individual one - but I suspect each of us has things that could be catch phrases with the right setup.

A couple of my own - as a Charlie Brown clone, it seems, when younger I used to say "it's possible" to a lot of stuff, not wanting to take a stand. That could even be a catch phrase, said as weird times to something outlandish.

I'll be really busy so might not be back for a long while, but thought this would be an interesting thread topic, though, to close for now.

Well, since I can remember, my Mom liked to use:

"Do you want a medal?" < I use this a lot myself now
"If _______ jumped into the Canal, would you?"
"Stop crossing your eyes or they will freeze like that!"

Then theres one i like to use when people gossip around me:

"Some take his side, some take her side, but, I'm one of those strange eccentrics, who likes to mind his own business!"

I always say, "And I'm Gwyneth Paltrow". You know, as in "Yeah right". Don't ask me how I came up with Gwyneth Paltrow's name, I just said it once and then it stuck.

My sister-in-law says "Tooooo Bad" to everything. For an example I'd say I need to go get groceries and she'd say "Toooo Bad". It can really get on your nerves after awhile but its her little catch phrase.

My dad always says when someone is in trouble with my mom, she gives so-and-so "the seltzer". That was a running joke at his former job, referring to a clown and seltzer water. It's another way of saying someone's in the proverbial doghouse.

My nephew would use that phrase "It doesn't matter." we started doing it too.

I don't know how many of you ever seen the Animaniacs cartoons by Steven Spielberg (yes the director) but those cartoons are just hilarious. I don't see them on television anymore, but my youngest daughter would watch them when they were on the air. This was abt 10 years ago. Anyhoo, the boy characters would see the pretty girl character and they would say real loud, "HELLOOOOOOOO NURSE!" Well, me and my nieces would say that a lot. Then it got shortened to just "Hello Nurse" whenever I would walk into the door of my sister's house or when they came to my house. Now, me and my three nieces call each other "Nurse" whenever we see each other. If one of them calls me they say, "Hi nurse." We have been doing this FOR THEN YEARS!!!!!!! We even sign birthday cards that way. We love it!

I usually say, "And I'm the Queen of England." hehe. Same meaning.

And if I say something to my mom like, "I'm bored" or "I'm hungry," or something, my mom will come back with, "I'm mom," meaning, "So?" LOL

We were FAR from rich when i was a kid....ok, we were poor...
When i wanted extra money I always got:

Dad: What? Do you think I'm MADE of money????

Mom: Sure, I'll just go to the backyard and pick some off the money tree!*

*We had several trees in the backyard back then....I remember trying to figure out which one WAS the money tree...I totally didnt GET it !

my brother and his son will sometimes greet each other the way Jerry and uncle Leo sometimes did on "Sienfield". You know, "JERRY"! "UNCLE LEO"!
