Sad Merv Griffin Treated for Prostate Cancer

Link

LOS ANGELES - Merv Griffin has been hospitalized for a recurrence of prostate cancer, a spokeswoman said Wednesday. He was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for cancer discovered during a routine examination a few weeks ago, said Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment.

"I'd rather play Jeopardy! than live it," the 82-year-old game show impresario and former talk show host said in a statement. "I was ready for a vacation; however, this wasn't the destination I had in mind."

Griffin's son, Tony, said his father was resting comfortably and that "his sense of humor and optimistic outlook remain intact."

"He's getting great care and his medical team want to monitor his progress in a controlled setting," Tony Griffin said in a statement.

Newberger declined to give additional details.

Griffin, a former band singer, invented and produced the popular game shows "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune."

I believe in recognizing a legend's actions, both positive and negative. What more can one ask for than over eight decades on this earth, mostly filled with fame and fortune? You gotta be realistic... he's 82.

I had a hard time coming into this thread, my Dad nearly died from prostate cancer last year ( And we always worry about a reccurance....cancers are so annoying that way ) anyway, I know what his family is going through, and i wish them all well!
My Dads cancer ( which we were told was completely gone 2 years ago....that proved to be wrong ) meant that he lost his prostate, bladder and part of a small intestine.
Cancer is basically the death of mutated cels, you die from the inside out, horrible desease...Good luck Merv , may you and your family get through this.

Man this was SO hard to write..i got a huge lump in my throat.

Mikey, I know from what you told me before abt your dad, it doesn't surprise me how hard this was for you to write. I know that feeling. I don't know how many times posting abt my late father has brought tears to my eyes.

I know your stance on celebs Mikey, but this was so nice of you to post this and let others know what cancer can do to anyone, celebrity or not.

My prayers to Merv Griffin for a full recovery, and I hope he lives to be 100.

Irene, as much as I like you as a poster, I don't think this is the time for that kind of criticism. Zoneboy, please link your sources, so some of us don't get lost while reading the information.

First of all, Irene did nothing wrong, The other poster in question made a comment that was totally uncalled for in this thread which has been deleted. Also, I usually link my sources when I post news but I forgot to do so in this case so thank you for bringing it to my attention & the link has been added.

Relax, people. My point is that Merv has had a long successful life... the glass is more than half full. And having seen his show, I'm sure he appreciates bawdy humor. Nowhere did I ever say I didn't like him.
