At L.A.'s Laugh Factory the other night, Lovitz and Andy Dick got into an argument about Phil Hartman's death and Andy Dick's drug use. Five months before Brynn Hartman shot Phil and herself to death, Dick allegedly gave her cocaine at a house party that Lovitz also attended. Brynn Hartman had been sober for ten years, and now Lovitz blames Dick giving her the cocaine as the reason why she got hooked again and killed Hartman and herself five months later.
According to witnesses, Lovitz picked Dick up several times and smashed his head and face into the bar, causing him to bleed. This isn't the first time they've had words. When Lovitz took over for Hartman on NewsRadio, he told Dick "I wouldn't be here now if you hadn't given Brynn that cocaine." And then last year Dick confronted Lovitz at a restaurant, taking drinks off the table and saying he put the "Phil Hartman hex" on him and that he was going to die next. http://www.nypost.com/seven/07172007...ix/pagesix.htm |

Anyone who beats up Andy Dick is OK in my book.
Seriously, the Hartman story is one of the biggest tragedies in recent years. That happened about a week before I graduated from high school in 1998. Who knows how things would be today if they were still alive. If Andy Dick did give her the cocaine and it all spiraled downhill from there...

Funny how the title "Jon Lovitz Beats Up Andy Dick" gets all of you non-fans of "NewsRadio" over to the board, lol.
I knew that Andy Dick and Jon Lovitz didn't get along during the fifth season of the show. But I didn't know this was the reason. That's freaky. I know that Andy Dick loved Phil Hartman, of course he didn't know what would happen if Brynn got the cocaine. But, yeah, that's wrong of Andy to get her back into it. Of course, don't forget the night David Strickland of "Suddenly Susan" commited suicide, he had been partying with Andy Dick and Jason Bateman. Now I understand why Lovitz hates Andy. I don't though. He still makes me laugh, but he certainly has a troubled life. |

Sitcoms Online has never been a big place for "NewsRadio" fans. It's my favorite show, but there's only so much to say, without getting responses, lol. If you look back you'll see a bunch of threads I've started that didn't get much action.
This show needs an E! True Hollywood Story more than any other show that hasn't already had one. Despite being a hilarious show, it's got a lot of troubles. I'm actually working on an E! True Hollywood Story that I'm going to post here on the boards, using quotes from the cast from the commentaries and different magazine articles (I have all the Entertainment Weekly's from 1994 to the early 2000s). But it's taking time, so it'll be a while before I actually post it. And with this news, I'll have a new story for my "special." |

Lovitz Speaks Out On Dustup With Andy Dick Comedian Explains That Rift Stems From Friction On "Newsradio" July 18, 2007 In an interview with Dennis Miller on Tuesday, comedian Jon Lovitz explained that Andy Dick's constant complaining about his arrival on "Newsradio" led to an argument during which Lovitz accused Dick of contributing to the death of Phil Hartman. Lovitz had joined the show, of which Dick was a co-star, after his friend Hartman was shot and killed by Hartman's wife, Brynn. "[Andy] was just complaining and really giving me a hard time for no reason. Phil told me that they had a Christmas party and Andy was doing cocaine and he gave it to Phil's wife Brynn, who had been sober for 10 years. So Andy said to me, 'Well, you shouldn't be here,' and I said, 'Well, I wouldn't be here if you hadn't given Brynn coke in the first place.'" Eventually, the two worked out their differences, or so Lovitz thought. "Later on we made up, and I said 'I'm sorry I said that,'" Lovitz said. "I realized it really wasn't his fault. Everything was fine for years." But everything changed when Dick visited a restaurant of which Lovitz is part-owner. Lovitz said he was sitting at a table with a friend, and a group at the table next to them treated them to some peach liqueurs. Apparently, Dick and a friend came over to their table, and downed both liqueurs. "He's standing there with liqueur dripping down his chin and he says, 'I put the Phil Hartman hex on you, you're the next one to die,'" said Lovitz. "And he's smiling, and my blood just went to my head. I wanted to smash him, but if I hit him he would have gone flying into the table behind him. He was really drunk." Lovitz told Dick's friend to take his buddy out of the restaurant and vowed never to let him back in again. He didn't see Dick again until Wednesday night, when Lovitz was performing his weekly show at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles. "So I do my show and there's all these people there and then I'm done and the MC's up on stage and I see Andy's up on stage and I'm like 'Oh my God, what's he going to do?'" he said. Lovitz met up with Dick in the packed lobby after the show. Lovitz wanted an apology from Dick for his "Hartman's hex" comment. But, apparently, Dick hadn't really buried the hatchet over their initial argument during their stint on "Newsradio." "I just wanted him to say, 'Oh, I'm sorry,'" said Lovitz. "Then he leans into me, 'Well you know why I said that? Because you said I killed Phil Hartman that's the first thing you said to me when you got on the show.' I just lost it so I grabbed him by the shirt and I pushed him against the wall. And he's just smiling at me, and then I realized 'oooh, here's my chance.' So I grabbed him by his shirt and pushed him really hard and I smashed his back and his head into the bar. And I did it again. I would have kept going, but the doorman broke it up." Miller congratulated Lovitz, whom he had introduced as "one of the most loveable, easygoing guys I know." He said, "I love this story. Good for you my friend." Dick's rep has not responded to calls for comment. |

Yeah, Jon is one great guy.
I seen him at a Dodger game last May (2006) and he was real nice to the fans who went up to him seeking pics or autographs. He sat abt twelve rows ahead of us. He was enjoying the game and didn't seem to be irked by some of the attention he got. Of course, at a Dodger game, there is always celebs there. That same night Tom Hanks was there. Most of the time they are not bothered, but this particular night, Jon was being approached and he just seemed so nice to people. KUDOS TO JON!!!!!! Who the hell finds Andy Dick remotely funny is beyond me. |

I believe there was an E True Hollywood Story episode about Andy Dick. He has been in and out of rehab for years. Apparently, he's off-the-wagon again.
I've always found him to be incredibly annoying. He was lucky to be on NewsRadio, where he was surrounded by talented actors. That having been said, I've only seen a few episodes of NewsRadio myself. Just never took the time to watch it faithfully. But there's no denying they put together a good company of actors and it was a shame that Phil Hartman's flipped-out wife had to end his life. Phil seemed like a pretty straight guy from what I can tell. |

The funny thing about Andy Dick on "NewsRadio" is that his character, Matthew Brock, is the exact opposite of the actor. His character is sweet, naive, and would never do drugs or drink or smoke. As the show went on, he became more and more like Andy Dick, and by the end he was just a freak.
I know he's done some bad things in his life. That's obvious. However, I still find him funny. I always have. I'm not saying that everything he's ever done has made me laugh, but his work on "NewsRadio," "Less Than Perfect" and then the two MTV Andy Dick shows has. And yes, there was an E! True Hollywood Story for Andy Dick as well as Phil Hartman. But I just think that a "NewsRadio" one should come out. If "That '70s Show" got one, there's no reason why "NewsRadio," which has had more trouble behind the scenes than T7S, shouldn't have one. I think it's time that I mention one remaining good quality in Andy Dick these days - he's not a Scientologist.
