Default The Coming of Urkel!

Today I saw Urkel's first episode. I haven't watched this show in years and only watched it, because I knew it was his first one. It's so funny to watch, knowing what's in store for the Winslows and the show once Urkel comes.

It was neat to see Steve introducing himself to the Winslows. Though he got annoying in the later years, he was genuinly funny in this episode and I can see why the producers brought him back.

Another thing, when Carl called up Steve's father and arranged a date with Laura and Steve, the audience went "ooooh" at him, for doing that. Little did they know what Carl was really doing (introducing Urkel to the family).

Yep, funny stuff. Now I want this show released on DVD more than ever. I'd forgotten how good it really was.

But then, if the Winslows and the Urkels were next door neighbors, why didn't Steve start bothering them earlier? And he obviously had loved Laura since Kindergarten, though nobody understands why. I don't think Carl started anything. It just looked like that in that episode, because Steve had to be introduced. Wow, I said "bothering", but just so you know, I looooooooooooove Steve.

Well, if you watched the episodes before this one, they had to go back after the first season taping was finished, and add in selected opening scenes with Steve in them, so that the audience would think he was always part of the cast when watching season 2 and beyond.

I love Steve, but that's just weird and wrong even to me. If Steve wasn't there in the beginning, he simply wasn't there! That has never happened over here in Sweden. We have been able to see all the episodes uncut, but right now, I only get to see the three first seasons.

You can tell they did so too, because everyone's hair is a bit longer in those scenes than the rest of the episodes. IT really doesn't make sense.

Was Steve Urkel even their neighbor in this episode? I mean, he was meant to be a one time character. Probably once they decided to make him a regular, then they decided to make him the next door neighbor. Because obviously, Carl didn't know who Steve Urkel was. You can tell that by his face when he first meets him.

Perhaps Steve was always a next door neighbor, but never had the courage to confront Laura and when Carl called him, he decided to go after her. Other than that, the whole beginning on Urkel is confusing.

I think he was turned into a next door neighbor after he became a regular.

IT's obviously just another inconsistency of this show. But, this show probably has more inconsistencies than any other show of the 90's.

What are ONLY ABC FAMILYDOES THAT, IT WAS NOT LIKE THAT ON ANY OTHER NETWORK. JUST ABC FAMILY, THAT'S IT! By the way Furienna, what episodes of season one used the cold opens where Steve cons Carl out of his sundae, when Steve won't let Laura take out the trash, or when Eddie helps him lift weights, because abc family puts those in the early ones without him.

Not only ABC Family did that. They added those scenes in after season 1 finished taping, for future syndication, just so that people thought he was always a regular in the series, so they wouldn't get confused.

I remember seeing the added-on scenes in syndication, before the show was on ABC Family
