Default Theo's dirty laundry

This episode raises a lot of questions. Like why Cliff and Claire make such a big deal out of Theo living with Justine, and why they even throw him out in the rain. But I also think it's just too weird, that Justine's parents take Theo into their house, and not their own daughter. Couldn't Theo have gotten the apartment instead? That would have made more sense.

The reason Cliff and Claire made a big deal about it was because, they were paying Theo's rent for an apartment that he was supposed to be sharing with some friends. And instead of paying his rent with the money that Cliff and Claire were giving him, he was pocketing the money and he opened up a bank account. Also he rented out his room to some other guy and he was charging that guy rent as well, so he was getting double rent money. Yet he was still during his laundry and eating at his parents house and making them think that he was living in his own apartment when he wasn't, he was living with Justine. So that's why Cliff and Claire was upset. And I don't blame them at all.

He wasn't getting double rent money. He still had to pay half the rent for Justine's apartment. He just got a little more money left, and he opened a bank account, when most people would have just spent that money. And he was nineteen years old. He had the right to live with whoever he wanted. Maybe he couldn't expect his parents to pay his rent either then, but they still blew it out of proportion. And furthermore, am I the only one, who found it very weird, that Justine's parents took Theo into their house, and not their own daughter?

I believe Justines parents were paying her rent, so Theo wasn't paying any rent anywhere. And if I'm paying my 19 yrold's rent they have to live where I tell them to live. All Theo had to do was go to school and make good grades. So NO Theo shouldn't have pocketed the money, it wasn't his to pocket.

What i couldnt figure out was why didnt Theo just say that Justine spent some nights over his apartment instead of trying to justify his scheme.

As old fashioned as they were (asking their daughter's husband if she was a virgin on her wedding night!?) they were probably upset that they were living together and *gasp* werent married...

That was sure part of it. But it's really weird of them to see their children have these girlfriends and boyfriends, but still expect them to wait until they're married.

They never said anything about their kids waiting on the show. I think that they hoped that their children would wait just like every other parent hopes that their child will wait until marriage.

But I doubt that they thought that Theo was still a virgin, there was an episode where Cliff dreamt that men could get pregnant and Theo was pregnant in the dream. They even made a remark about Theo being the single pregnant man.

It was never really made clear, that Theo and Justine had sex while sharing their apartment. They could have done like a couple did on "Seventh Heaven", even though they were engaged (?), share an apartment, and still not have sex. But one can wonder...

I think they were angry at him not being married and living together, at least that's what I always thought was implied. Obviously they care a lot about that if they go around asking their children's spouses if they were virgins on their wedding night...

I HIGHLY doubt that Theo's having sex has anything to do with this episode. I think that the fact that Theo was lying the whole time about his living arrangements and the fact that he was taking his parents money under false pretences, those were the reasons why Claire and Cliff were upset. Who wouldn't be upset?

But still, Theo was nineteen years old. If he was old enough to be thrown out of the house, he was also old enough to chose who he wanted to live with. And if his parents gave him money, he actually also had the right to do what he wanted with it, and that he opened a back account instead of spending the extra money showed great maturity from him. And why did Claire say "we didn't send you to college to live with your girlfriend", if the pre-marital cohabitation wasn't an issue to her?

They didn't give him money to do whatever he wanted to do with it. The money that they were giving him was specifically for his rent, it wasn't intended for him to do whatever he pleased. He was lucky that his parents would even pay his rent. If Theo wanted to open up a saving/checking account and if he wanted to have extra money in his pocket then he could have gotten a JOB and worked like other college students. He had it made with his parents paying his bills, he didn’t have to worry about thing but school. Then he blatantly lied to his parents month after month. Also Theo got himself thrown out of his parents house, he didn’t have the right to live there anyway, he had an apartment but with his greediness he screwed himself over.
