Question Giving up on a current show you watched for years

Have you ever watched and enjoyed a show for years, then decided to stop for whatever reason? What led you to decide to stop watching?

It happened this week with Rescue Me, a show I've never missed a single episode in its four seasons. I haven't enjoyed this season, and this week's episode was beyond bad, and I decided to throw in the towel.

It happened a few years ago with The Practice. We watched it for six seasons, and just got bored and quit. There were some cast changes that soured me too.

The West Wing, that was more a case of not having time. We were watching so many shows and movies, and I cut it out after five seasons.

Those at the Lost board know I contemplated giving up on it this past season, but I'm glad I hung in there.

I gave up on The Practice too. Other shows I stopped watching included Roseanne which just got to bad, and Ally McBeal which totally JTS after Billy died. I could probably name a bunch of them. One of my biggest favorites was Seventh Heaven but I didn't even watch the last 4 or 5 years as it turned into a soap opera. If I no longer enjoy watching the show then it's gone for me.

When I was younger, it was Family Matters. These days it's the Law & Order shows.

The Dead Zone: I twas great during the first two seasons when they were following the Stephen King book. Once the show started getting into unexplored territory it became uninteresting.

You know I still like SVU but I'm barely holding on to L&O. That show just hasn't been the same since Jerry Orbach died and last season I thought it was pretty bad. I probably missed half the episodes.

the Cosby Show- I got totally sick of it when they did the hyper-boring "Hillman Homecoming" show , but, i was actually already getting tired of it before then, but....that was the last straw.

The Simpsons- I'm not sure why Ive stopped watching, it just doesnt seem as good anymore, its become pretty much the same show every week, just the details change.

Married with Children- What goes for the Simpsons pretty much fits here too...by the end, every show seemed to be about "No Maam's" attempts at hiding from women, and Al calling Marcie a chicken.

Wonderful World of Disney- Not only have i outgrown it, it's also just become another Disney promotion vehicle....do they really need to get ALL
the money in the World?

Happy Days- When Ronny Howard left, so did I

Mork and Mindy- They changed the show radically in the 2nd season...and i said nanu nanu...bye

Laverne and Shirley- They moved to California, i moved to a different channel

The Simpsons - I can't remember the last time I watched it. Not a rerun and not a new episode.

Lost - I threw in the towel.

Prison Break - I got tired of waiting during the hiatus. I found new shows to get interested in.

I used to LOVE MASH when it was on; even through all the changes-"The Alan Alda show, Hot Lips becoming "Margret", Radar leaving, etc.; even when the reruns started airing in sydnication. But about 10 years ago, I stopped watching them (exept for the first 3 seasons). At first; just the post-Radar ones, now it's all the season 4 through 11 ones.

And, I stopped watching ROSEANNE when it started getting too MASH-like about the 4th or 5h season.

Just to clarify, I'm referring to shows that were current when you gave up on them, not shows in syndication.

The Nanny - it wasn't the same show after Fran and Maxwell got married

Grounded for Life - I only watched it on FOX, but when it moved to the WB, I didn't watch it at all

Mad About You - Stopped watching after they had the baby in season 6

Facts of Life - When Mrs. Garret left the show, and they brought in Cloris Leachman and moved to that little shop. She was just unbearable to watch.

I rarely leave a show that I've been watching for a while, but it did happen to 7th Heaven. I stuck through 2 crappy seasons to the "Series Finale" and when they decided to actually bring it back I was mad so I didn't watch.

I actually watched the first series finale. I have a habbit of doing that with shows I no longer watch just sort of a gesture for entertaining me for some of the years. But I didn't watch the 2nd series finale. They weren't going to get me twice.

I used to tape and watch General Hospital in the Luke & Laura days but they got so weird on their story lines a little later on, that I couldn't stand to watch it anymore. It was like watching a James Bond movie there at one point.

I know what you mean, but that's a soap opera for you.
