Anyone see the debut episode of the new karaoke game show The Singing Bee Tuesday night? I thought the main game reminded me of the late 60s game show Win With the Stars (a revival of Wink Martindale's first game show What's This Song?) where contestants had to sing the next song lines.

As for the bonus round it was well-crafted, building drama and suspense as the winning contestant was one song away from either winning $50,000 or striking out. Joey Fatone has a good future ahead of him as a game show host though he may be the first person on TV since Midnight the Cat on the kids show Smilin' Ed's Gang to use the catch phrase "Nice!"

I'm sorry, but I hated it. It was very corny to me. And why does every new game show today have to have those model dancers singing those dumb songs? I mean, after commercial, those dancers would sing that same song over and over.

I much preferred FOX's Don't Forget the Lyrics last night at 9:30. It was much better game play, and a whole different show. But, it wasn't fair to FOX because NBC was supposed to premiere The Singing Bee in November, but decided to premiere it a day before FOX's Don't Forget the Lyrics because they knew it was just about the same show, and wanted to air it first to grab viewers, which seems to me like a total ripoff.
