I prefer the jeffersons as lead characters. I liked them on all in the family as well but as leads you really saw how funny george & weezy really were.

I thought that the Jeffersons were great on All In The Family, but I've never been able to get into their own show.

Louise was funnier as a supporting character on All in the Family. The episode when Archie was missing (when Carroll O'Connor was holding out for more money) and the scene with her and George in the kitchen was hilarious. I was screaming when she slammed George. George was a riot in that one as well when he was slamming the table, the chair, the wall and asked Louise what else he can slammed. She replied the door from the other side. He went there and did that. That was some of the most funniest comedy I saw those two do.

Louise was also funny in Part 1 of Archie's missing when the tupperware lady made a backhanded racial comment to her. Charlotte Rae was a riot in that episode and Louise's reaction and her comeback was priceless.

Louise as a lead character rubbed me the wrong way as the show progressed. Louise became snobbier and so self righteous to a point it got on my nerves. With her and Mother Jefferson was funny. Louise knew how to slam her.

IMO, The Jeffersons were great any which way you looked. A spin off that spun almost as nicely as the ground breaking show it came from.

I prefered them as supporting characters, on AITF George and Henry Jefferson were a good counterpoint to Archie, and Weezy and Lionel were wonderful and charming, but, on their own show, the Jeffersons just became a slapstick parody of themselves, I stopped watching by about the 4th season.
