Angry Man-Eating Swimming Pool

I smell lawsuit. How does anyone miss an open drain when they do a pool check? If they even did one.

I suppose some people might find this ick, so I'll just post the link.

Those are the drains that allow the water to drain out of the pool. They usually have a screen of some sort over it. But by no means, it wasn't literally a big hole. It is a drain hole that may be pretty small, but the suction power is just tremendous. No matter how hard you try to pull a child away from the suction, it is not possible.

This type of accident has happened many many many times. There was one where a little boy had his intestines ripped out in the same way as the girl here in the story. He survived.

They just had a special abt that same problem on INSIDE EDITION on Tuesday's show. They also talked abt the lights in swimming pools that can short-circuit and electrocute people who go into the pool. They were saying that many pools across America are not "updated" with the proper drainage covers, pool lights, etc. That is scary because how would you know until it is too late.

Dateline did a piece on these accidents a few years back. I remember one little boy was sitting on top of the drain in the shallow end of a hotel pool. His father realized what was happening, and they were running everywhere to find the person to find the room where the off switch was. The boy survived, but was never the same. I thought they had passed a law to make the switches more accessible. Terrible shame. Total horror.

When it's safer to let your kids swim in the ocean than a pool, changes need to happen.

That is too scary!! I've had a fear of bodies of water (pools or lakes) since I nearly drowned in a pool as a young kid on vacation in Canada. Why don't people check these things more often??

Guess somebody has to die before they do anything.

Speaking of which, HAS anybody died because of this?

I haven't heard of any deaths...many many hair pulls and hospitalizations, but all recoveries.

Could be hard to wind all that back in the right way...at least I think it would be pretty difficult.
