The popular spin-off from the classic series Soap is now on DVD! That is of course Benson, who was the insolent butler to the Tates on Soap, has now moved on to the governor’s mansion. The governor is of course Jessica Tate’s cousin. Benson: The Complete First Season makes its DVD debut with all 24 first season episodes plus brand new special features all on a great 3-disc set from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment! Over the course of its seven season run on ABC, Benson was nominated for 17 Emmy Awards, winning three of them and nominated for four Golden Globes.
The series stars 5-time Emmy nominee Robert Guillaume as Benson and James Noble as Governor James Gatling. Also starring in the first season are the governor’s little daughter Katie played by Missy Gold, the stern German housekeeper Gretchen Kraus played by Inga Swenson, the governor’s secretary Marcy Hill played by Caroline McWilliams, and John Taylor the governor’s political aide played by Lewis J. Stalden. Read our review here: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/bensons...dvdreview.html Post any questions or comments about this set. |

Well, pavan, thank you for a very thorough and informative review. I'm certainly excited about it and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
I was thrilled to read that James Noble participated in the extras. I absolutely loved him as Governor Gatling! Not to mention that he, Guillaume, and the others are getting up in age, so thank God Sony decided to release Season 1 while they're all pretty much still around. Sounds to me like Sony went all out to put together a quality package for S1 and major kudos to them for that. Hopefully the great care they took in its creation, along with the strength of sales for S1, will ensure a S2 (and beyond) release. And like you, I'd love to see bloopers next time around. That's something I really enjoy, as I'm sure most others fans do as well. Just 3 weeks away!

I can't believe James Noble is 85. He looks great in the interviews.

And yes, he does look wonderful for being 85 years of age. If I get to live that long, I hope I look as good.
