Does anyone remember this case? It was a quick profile of him and stated that he had escaped from prison (it was on LRW shortly before they stopped showing UM). There was an update to it that he had been arrested but I recently found out that he has escaped AGAIN (actually for the 3rd time). He escaped back in April of '06 from a Federal prison in Louisiana and remains on the run:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_McNair Actually if you scroll down the page and click on 2 it will show you the actual interview between a cop and McNair as he is able to talk his way out of any trouble or arrest. Pretty interesting. |

Hey Crystaldawn, McNair escaped in April of 2006 actually, he has been on the run now over a year, I think he will try to stay out this time, since he knows this is his last shot at freedom because if he is recaptured I am sure they will send him to the federal supermax prison in Colorado.
I know a couple of weeks after he escaped he was nearly caught in British Columbia, Canada where he was driving a stolen car. He was also caught on survilleance tapes in that same town in Canada at a blockbuster video and at a Wal-Mart. He was in prison doing a life sentence in North Dakota for murder and attempted murder when he escaped in 1992 and he was re-captured 10 months later in Nebraska in 1993. However he has stayed out a good long time, also when he was first arrested in 1988 in North Dakota, he was able to steal a detectives lip balm and use it to squeeze out of handcuffs and he led police on a three hour foot choice through the streets of Minot. That cop in Louisiana, only a smooth talker like McNair could get past him, considering that half way through the cops questioning McNair changed his alias from the alias he had first given him and the cop didnt even pick up on it. |

Thanks Kadrmas, I corrected the year in my post. I was suprised coming across that because I just recently watched his segment on UM where there was an update that he was captured and to see he was gone again. Also in the segment they show him lecturing troubled teens about prison and warning them against it. It sounds like from what I read, he may be hiding out in Canada. Hopefully he'll be caught soon.

They've been profiling this guy regulary on AMW. They showed video of him actually fooling a cop when he escaped. They almost caught him in Canada where he took a bunch of recent digital pictures of himself.

Well Richard McNair has been captured in New Brunswick, Canada! I expect that once he is returned to the United States they will send him to the super max federal prison in Colorado since he is such an escape risk.

Glad to hear he was caught. I've been following the case on AMW.
It's amazing he survived so many close calls but it was only a matter of time. |

What is surprising about McNair is that he was actually a military policeman in the Air Force, in fact he was a Sergeant in the Air Force at the time he was arrested for murder and attempted murder. His brother describes him as the smartest person he ever met and said that he looked up to his older brother until his brother started using his intelligence to hurt people. But surprisingly, at the time of his arrest, McNair was also an informant for the Minot Police Department and in fact had been responsible for a very large cocaine bust. McNair's dad also apperantly was a police officer for over 30 years. So very interesting story, but yes he is back where he belongs.
