Default Should begging for replies be banned?

Should SO moderators close threads where the original poster replies too his/her own post and begs for replies?

Let's put it this way. If you were to open a resturant, stood outside and gave a menu to each person passing by but no one entered, would that tell you something?

If the Cattlemen's association held their annual convention and the guest speaker wanted to discuss the best way to knot a afghan sweater, would his audience be great?

i'm not sure if it's the story as much as the forum presented in. Chit chat to me means simple things, not settling world problems but "your favorite color of Crayola', what your doing today, tomorrow and next week. "What's happening at school at work etc" Like sitting at the coffee table or at the ball game and shooting the bull.

I believe if people wanted to read stories they would join a book of the month club, go to the library or join a literary club, this not being the place to get the feedback you sorely desire. There must be groups for budding authors where you could get much more valuable advice and maybe go on from there but to push here, "with tell me, tell me" will not get you to far. This group would much prefer to discuss the merits of Carvel vs. Baskin Robbins then your skills as a author.

I haven't seen any begging for replies, BUT I have seen a lot of whining when not every thread and post is answered.

To me, bumping is just answering to your own thread, so that it will be "bumped" to the top, without saying anything................... On SO, this is impossible to do, but at another website I am a part of, you can do "ghost" bumping, because they allow members to delete their own posts.(At SO< only an Administrator or Moderator can delete posts(Not the same thing as editing). What I'm talking about is when you post a thread and no one answers, and you answer the thread saying, "Why isn't anyone answering my thread? I would really, really like an answer!"

When you ask, "will someone please answer my question as I would like a answer" and still no response, what does that mean to you?

At that point you have two choices. Ask again and come across as begging, or say "there isn't that much interest" and go to another topic. Many threads get little or no repsonse but I don't see the starter continiously asking for responses.
