TV on DVD

I'm a big fan of vintage TV and have been snatching up new DVD releases of my favorite series. I just recently purchased The Addams Family Vol. 2 and am enjoying that, since I haven't seen these shows since I was a kid.
I already have Vol. 1 and thought that since The Addams Family only ran 2 seasons (1964-65 & 1965-66) that I now owned the entire series.
Well I just realized that the reason MGM titled these collections Vol. 1 & 2 and not Season 1 & 2 is because although they are presented in correct airing order, Volume 1 only has a little more than half of the first season on it. Likewise with Volume 2.
I can only conclude that MGM, being the smart business-people they are, are planning a Volume 3 with the remainder of season 2.
This I find pretty bizarre and annoying, as my shelf space is somewhat limited. Reminds me of the Lost In Space DVD's: splitting Season 2 & 3 into 2 part sets...(I still haven't been able to find a season 3 vol. 1 on that series)
Also, while I'm ranting...does anybody know if the Batman TV series is ever coming to DVD?? I mean the 1966-68 series with Adam West...I can't imagine why it hasn't surfaced yet. Hopefully they will package it by season in correct airing order, though its 1st season being a short one may cause marketing to put it together with season 2, which would be fine.

I too am upset by MGM's way of releasing "The Addams Family" in three volumes as opposed to two season sets. But at least the third (and final) set IS coming soon. So, we'll have every episode.

As for "Batman" I'm not sure, but I remember reading that it was a legal battle for the rights to release the show. Whether it be Warner Bros wanting to release it and they are up against 20th Century FOX (which released the movie) or another company wanting the rights. I hope it gets cleared up soon. This is a show I'd love to see released. Right now, I'm having to settle for the Adam West, Burt Ward animated Batman series from Filmation (with Bat-Mite!).

just an idea...but do you think the reason they did it was because they were planning on including the movies in the 3rd set? ya know, the 2 movies made in the 90's? or was it 3?

I read somewhere (and I may be wrong) that The Addams Family was released in small volumes to make the sets more affordable allowing for the entire series to be released (and it has come to that). I didn't pay over $20 for either Volumes One or Two, and a few months after each was released I've seen them on sale for even less. When The Munsters Season One was released, the set was selling for $35 and up, and that is a lot to ask for a single season of a vintage show.

As for the feature films, I doubt that either will be available on the third volume as Paramount owns the rights to the movies, and they just released a double feature of both movies on a single disc for $10 or less. I really wish that they'd gone back and prepared a really elegant presentation with blooper reels, behind the scenes features and such (because I'm certain that those were made when the movies were released) and deleted scenes, but they have yet to do that.

They made a third movie, Addams Family Reunion, but it was a direct to video release and used an entirely different cast. The plot would've worked pretty well with the original movie's cast, but they discontinued any productions after the death of Raul Julia.
