Default Jackie & Art

Does any know from hearing or reading (reliable articles) about their relationship during and after the show? Did they really get along as well off stage as well as they performed on stage?

They truely "Clicked" on the Honeymooners. I always wondered if they had just as good a friendship offstage.

Considering gossip today among many co-stars, you never heard any putdowns from these two against the other, which is refreshing.

That question also applys to Joyce and Audrey.

Mr. Gleason and Mr. Carney's relationship, off-camera, was for all practical purposes strictly business. Except for publicity purposes, they never really socialized outside the confines of The Great One's apparatus.

Carney was always, in interviews, putting his long-time working relationship with Gleason in the most positive light possible. And while Gleason, also in interviews, said publicly that Carney was "90% responsible" for The Honeymooners' success, if you read William Henry III's The Great One book and Michael Seth Starr's Art Carney tome, there seemed to be some evidence that deep down, Gleason was somewhat jealous towards Carney in private. But all agree that onscreen, even in Izzy & Moe during the filming of which by many accounts Gleason was more than a little difficult behind the scenes, the two of them shone.

Audrey said her and Joyce were very friendly on set but that was really it. According to Audrey she didn't even know where Joyce lived.

Same with Art and Jackie. Art said the only time he ever saw Jackie outside of work was when they would occasionally meet at the bar or studio and throw ideas around for the show. They weren't close friends but they both had an incredible amount of respect for each other.
