World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.

Tonight’s Raw on USA Network will serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

Incidentally, before ANYONE starts throwing out "drugs" or "steroids" or anything like that, Benoit was one of the cleanest and most respected guys in the business. Especially since it's not only him but his wife and son that were found dead.

I am in shock. Benoit was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. This sounds like a murder/suicide type of thing. Last night he rushed home to get home and they had to reshuffle the ppv card. Anyway you slice it, this sucks big time.

This is horrible, Chris was one of my favorites and now we've lost both him and Nancy plus their Son. Don't know about murder-suicide but something obviously isn't right somewhere.

This tragedy looks like it could be the result of carbon monoxide poisoning, and that can be fatal. No matter how you look at it, pray for the respective kin of Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy and their son, Daniel.

This is awful.

I haven't felt this bad about a wrestler dying since Owen Hart died. Chris Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers, not to mention one of the best technical wrestlers of all time. He could make a lousy wrestler look like a million dollars in the ring and not many people can do that.

R.I.P. Chris, Nancy and Daniel.

What is it with Wrestling and wrestling stars who seem to die young? seem to die suspiciously? seem to die in horrible ways? etc. Seems like someone in the wrestling federation is dying every six months.

Local Atlanta media is beginning to cover the news that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead today. AJC.com reports that police found the bodies at around 4pm local time and that police would not say how the family died other than they were not shot to death.

Sources tell 1Wrestling.com that police were dispatched to the Benoit home after receiving a call from WWE officials who were concerned that they were not able to get in touch with Benoit.

Vince McMahon opened tonight's RAW broadcast standing in the ring in an empty arena. McMahon explained that tonight was scheduled as a show centered around the presumed death of the "Mr McMahon" character, but with the tragic news of this afternoon the show would now be a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities said professional wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and child were found slain Monday at their Fayette County home.

Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details.

Pope said the deaths are being investigated as homicide, but the cause of death awaits autopsy results tomorrow.

He would not say how the bodies were discovered, or who found them.

This is horrible news.

There was a time a few years ago where it felt like another wrestler was dying every month.

So many wrestlers have died within the past 10 years and the majority of them weren't even 50 years old yet and were still active wrestlers. Heck about 2 weeks ago, a former female wrestler died and they still don't know what happened.

Exactly. I was wondering how she died, still don't know and now this? What is going on here. A curse? This is the worst career to have it seems.

Really sad news, I've been shocked about this for the past few hours. One of my favorite wrestlers gone. I'm grateful that I was able to see him wrestle live on three different occasions.

Not that this has anything to do with Benoit, but most wrestlers hardly have any time off. They are constantly travelling the world. People say that wrestling is fake, but they suffer real injuries. To mask the pain sometimes, the take a lot of pain pills.

After awhile, some take more than they should and die. It has happened numerous times. Also, some want to get an edge, so they take steroids to build up their bodies and we all know what steroids can do.

In the case of Benoit, this defenitely sounds fishy. I don't want to implicate anyone, but his wife Nancy left her first husband, wrestler Kevin Sullivan to be with Chris. That was a few years ago, but you never know.
