Please forgive me if this question was posted earlier. I always felt had Chrissy and the Ropers stayed...the show might have lasted up until 1984, or maybe even 1985 or 1986, and would have ended on a more logical note. Of course, they eventually would have run out of ideas, and the quality of the later seasons would not have been as creative, or as funny, as the earlier episodes. I think the show would have had almost the same ending. Janet would have still married Philip, and Jack would still have become involved with Vicki. Perhaps Chrissy would have stayed single though? Of course she could have met, and started a relationship with, a young man who was just as "dumb" as she was. LOL! Such a union would have put more fun and charm in the show's final years. It would make sense for Chrissy to attend Janet's wedding since they were pals for the longest time. Whether Mr. Furley came aboard or not, it was wrong for the Ropers to NOT attend Janet's wedding since they were very close to her. Couldn't the producers have made arrangements for Audra Lindley and Norman Fell to make one final appearance in the last episode of "Three's Company?" After all they did show up in the episode: "The Night of the Ropers." Don't get me wrong..the last episode was cute and funny as is...but there were too many "loose ends." Like some people, I always felt the show seemed "incomplete" after Chrissy and the Ropers left.
What do you think, my friends? Sincerely, Steve B. |

The show did run until 1984. But would if have lasted longer if Suzanne Somers was still was on it? I don't know. But as it was the show was almost ready to be cancelled in 84. Maybe another year or so to wrap things up and bring closure to all the cast members, instead of the rushing the ending like the producers of the show did.

Not too much longer because the characters would have gotten older and it would have looked strange to have three people in their mid 30's sharing a apartment

I don't believe it would have changed anything. The only thing that would have changed is the ratings of the fifth season (would have been higher).

I think the show had run out of steam by 1984, and it seems kind of doubtful if having Chrissy on the show would have changed that.

Suzanne SHOULD have left when she did or even earlier since her dumb act was getting really old and stale. She was doing the same dumb gags over and over and it wasn't really funny anymore.
Terri was the best roomate since she was more multidimensional than any other roomate. She was funny, attractive, vivacious and smart yet she played dumb well at times when she needed to and she came off as very believable unlike Suzanne you knew she was just acting since she couldn't be that. |

While Chrissy was my favorite blond, I don't think the show would have lasted as long as it did had Suzanne Somers never left. I liked the Ropers, but after a while their repetitive jokes got old.

Still, I think the show would have been better if the Ropers remained the landlords throughout the run of the show. Whether Chrissy stayed or not. |

I agree with an earlier post that the Ropers' schtick had worn thin, and Don Knotts as Mr. Furley brought a whole new, different energy to the show. I think the cast changes helped keep the show fresh, and as long as John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt were in the center of the action, it didn't really matter who the blond roommate was. That said, in 1984 the show had pretty much exhausted all its plots, and it was time to call it a day.

Not so sure but when Chrissy left and Terri came in it gave the show new life and new ideas. With Chrissy they would probably run out of ideas. Although I liked Chrissy better than Terri I think the show would've not lasted as long if Suzanne Somers stayed and never left.

If Chrissy had stayed, things definitely would have been different, and yes, the show may well have gone on longer, but hearing this talk of Jack, Janet and Chrissy going their separate ways has made me realize something.
I wanted just those three to stay together forever and never marry anyone else! I know that what I'm suggesting is nothing less than support for polygamy, but when you think about it, wasn't that the subtext for the entire show? Sure, the writers always had the characters claim to have been platonic, but I think we're all old enough now to face the fact that the mere hint of three-way sex between Jack, Janet and Chrissy was what lured legions of young people to the show. So, in our big hearts and dirty minds, let's all just make believe that our beloved trio live on together, happily ever after. As for polygamy, who am I---a gay man---to tell a straight man he can't have two wives or vice-versa? |
