Post Together Again2

(I will try and post chapter three as soon as possible.)

Together Again2

Jo smiled as Miss Garrett walked into the room. “Hey Miss G”

“Well hey, Jo. Where did the others go?”

Jo clasped her hands together and gave a small smile. “They went upstairs to play with Daphne and Erica.”

“Oh, I see.” Miss Garrett gave a little giggle, made sure her hair was in place, and then sat on the sofa.

“Mind if I join ya?”

“No, not at all.”

Jo nodded her head and walked over to the sofa. She sat down and pulled one leg underneath her.

“So,” Miss Garrett started. “Anything you want to talk to me about?”

Jo sat up and shrugged her shoulders. “Oh no, nothing at all…Well yeah, I guess there is.”

“Ok…”

“Well, it’s not me really, it’s the others.”

“And they think you’re the right person to deliver their message?”

Jo shrugged, “Seems that way.”

Miss Garrett laughed, “Well, go ahead then.”

Jo rubbed a hand over the back of her head and slightly shrugged. “Well, it’s just that they were afraid of how you were, you know-taking Bruce’s death and all…”

“Ohhh,” Miss Garrett said a bit nervous.

“Well, it’s just that they’re concerned maybe it’s had a negative affect on you.”

“Well, I would love to say they’re wrong, but I’m afraid they may be right.” Miss Garrett leaned back against the sofa and sighed. “You see, Jo, I can’t help but think that Bruce wasn’t ready to go; it wasn’t his time, it was mine.”

“What are you saying Miss. G. It was his time or I’d be sitting here talking to him and not you.”

“Jo, if I would’ve been home that night I could have gotten him to the hospital in time.”

“Yeah, and if I were there the night my parent’s decided to split I’m sure I could’ve stopped that,” Jo said firmly, trying to get her point across.

“Jo…”

Jo took in a deep breath, “Miss G, the point is that everything happens for a reason. Bruce had a heart attack because it was his time, not because you had gone out to a movie. You being there wouldn’t have changed a thing. Except maybe you would have gotten so extatic that you too could’ve gotten hurt, and that really wouldn’t have been good.”

Miss Garrett sighed, “Maybe I deserved to get hurt…”

Jo stood up, crossed her arms, and then stared right at Miss Garrett. “Miss G, what is it you always taught us? What is it you always said? You always put into my head that you should live each day to the fullest. We all know you did that. First off you raised four girls and God knows that was pure hell. Second off you helped a lot of people over in Africa, and you also gave Bruce fifteen damn good years.” Jo took in a deep breath as she dropped her arms to her side. “The point is that your life isn’t over, your time isn’t up, but his is. Thing is, he couldn’t of spent his last moments with a better person.”

They each sat there in silence for a few minutes…

“I got a story for you Miss G.”

“Jo, I don’t think I’m in the mood for any stories.”

“It’s a true one and I promise it’ll be worth your time.”

Miss Garrett sighed, “Oh alright”

“Ok.” Jo quickly sat down, placed her hands in her lap, and faced Miss G. “There was once this old guy who was in great pain. The reason was because his wife had recently died and he missed her greatly. He secluded himself from his family and his friends. The whole world mainly. Anyway, one day he decided to go see a shrink to get some advice. He walked in to the guy’s office and explained the to guy that he was going through much grief and really missed his wife. The shrink calmly sat the man down and began speaking to him. ‘Your wife died and you’re going through much pain,’ the man said. ‘But what if the opposite had happened? What if you had died and your wife had to experience such pain and grief?’ The man sat there, thinking about what the shrink had just said. He took in a deep breath, slowly stood up, smiled at the man and shook his hand. He thanked the man and left the building- happy.” Jo gave a small smile. “You see Miss G. If you would have died what do you think it would have done to Bruce? I mean maybe you’re stronger than him so you an handle it better.” Jo shrugged, “And that’s my story.”

Miss Garrett bit at her bottom lip as she fought back the tears. She stared straight at Jo and managed a small smile. “Thank you, Jo.”

Jo nodded her head, gave a small smile, and shrugged her shoulders. “All in a days work.”

Miss Garrett gave a little laugh, “I’m sure you’re good with the high school kids, and with your own.”

Jo smiled, “I’d like to think so.”

“Miss Garrett! Where’s the sugar?” Andy called from the kitchen.

Miss Garrett wiped away the few tears that escaped her eyes and quickly stood up in an obvious furry. “If I don’t get in there quick my kitchen may look like a tornado has been in there.”

Jo laughed, “Better hurry then.”

Miss Garrett nodded and began walking to the kitchen.

“Oh, and Miss G,” Jo spoke up before she had gone into the kitchen. “Glad I could help.”

Miss Garrett smiled and then walked into the kitchen.

Jo smiled to herself, proud that she had gotten her point across.

“Not bad”

Jo looked up to see Blair sitting on the bottom step.

“Were you there the whole time?” Jo questioned.

Blair smiled, “Long enough.”

Jo shrugged as she slowly stood up, “And the verdict is…?”

Blair smiled as she walked towards Jo. “I guess you passed…”

Jo laughed, “I would love to say that means a lot to me, but I can’t.”

Blair rolled her eyes, but then a solemn expression slowly crossed her face. “Think you have anymore advice left in you?”

Jo raised an eyebrow, wondering what Blair was referring to. “Yeah, sure,” she shrugged.

Blair pressed her lips together and gave a nervous laugh. “It’s something that I don’t really want to spread around, but you’re the only person I have to talk to about it, you’re the only person I can really trust.” Blair sighed, “So many times I wanted to call you and ask for your advice, but I guess my ego got in the way.”

Jo joked, “I guess that could happen with one as big as yours.”

Blair laughed, “I guess you’ll have to just overlook it, because I’m in big trouble.”

Jo shrugged, “Ok, how bout we go outside?”

Blair hesitated, “In the freezing cold?”

“If you want privacy then you have to freeze for it.”

Blair sighed but nodded her head in agreement. “Ok, let’s go.”

Jo nodded her head and walked to the door. She picked up her jacket off the coat stand and headed outside. Blair followed after her and did the same…
