Drew Carey, come on down! You're the next contender to replace Bob Barker as host of "The Price is Right."
CBS and producer FremantleMedia North America have talked to the comic about hosting the long-running daytime gameshow, people familiar with the situation said. Eye already has a relationship with Carey, who's been tapped to host the net's upcoming primetime quizzer "Power of 10" (Daily Variety, March 21). Nothing's been decided about who ultimately will inherit Barker's skinny microphone, however. Carey is one of several people who have been mentioned as candidates, including Rosie O'Donnell and George Hamilton. If Carey did get the "Price" gig, he'd likely have to pull double duty on "Power," which premieres in August. But such cross-daypart synergies have worked before (think Regis Philbin on "Live!" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"). Carey makes a lot of sense for the Barker job, given his mainstream, blue-collar appeal. His comic roots -- and a past gig on the ABC improv show "Whose Line Is it Anyway" -- also give him the ability to think quickly on his feet. Reps for CBS and FMNA declined comment. |

I wouldn't mind seeing him as host. I always liked Drew.

Drew Carey seems like a good choice. I've always liked his work. He's got that mainstream appeal going. I'm seeing stories everywhere on who will take over TPIR. It's on a lot of minds these days. I don't even watch the show, but I find myself getting caught up in the mystery of who gets the job, lol.

Drew Carey already has one game show under his belt, Who's Line is it, Anyway? He'll host another game show, but not The Price is Right. I know, he, Ian Zehring and others are trying out to host that show, but Todd Newton is clearly the most qualified to succeed Bob Barker, given his credentials that include TPIR Live, the DVD game version of TPIR, attending tapings of the show and taking notes. Drew Carey will be included in an upcoming thread on the current game show industry-he's just as good a comic as he is as a host.

Is there anyone left in Hollywood who hasn't been offered the Price Is Right gig?

It looks like they want a big name to replace Bob. Anybody is better than Rosie.
![]() Meanwhile, CBS has the repeat schedule through the second week in August and they are still on January episodes then, so it looks like they are preparing for a huge delay in the start of Season 36. |

while i could never quite get into his sitcom i like the idea of drew carey for the price is right he has game show hosting experence a style of humor that seemes to appel to everybody and ive read many times that he is one of the nicest people in showbiz or out of it for that matter several people in an artcile for autograph collector magzine made comments about how when you talk to him and ask him for autographs he treats you like an old buddy and talks to you on your own level without any pretense whatsoever in short hes a real people person so i wish him good luck because he just might be what they are looking for and he also might make the show still worth watching in short if anyone can succeed bob barker and do a gret job without trying to be bob barker drew carey can do it

I think Drew would be a good fit, and I'd take him anyday over Rosie.

Actually, it would be really funny to see Ryan Styles or Diedrich Bader posing on a car when the curtain is pulled back. Drew would probably love a practical joke like that. |

Come one, everybody! Mimi would be great . . .
Seriously, this is one person I never thought of hosting TPiR, but now that it has been mentioned, I couldn't think of anyone better! He would be great to host the Price is Right, with his quick humor and down to earth quality. And, is anyone else sick of hearing about Todd Newton? I mean, we all know that many people want him as host, but do you have to post it on every single thread? (Not trying to be rude, by the way) |
