Why IPS? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I always wondered why they decided to use a fake delivery company (IPS) on the show instead of UPS. Was there any particular reason they did this? I know they mentioned FedEx in a couple episodes, so I don't see why it would've been a problem for them to use the UPS name. I think there was actually an episode where they showed a brown UPS truck on the street (maybe by accident), instead of the dark green IPS truck.

i think i remember someone from the show saying UPS wouldn't allow it.

I agree. I am assuming UPS wouldn't allow the show to use their logo, name, etc.

FedEx probably didn't mind because it is FREE ADVERTISING. Stupid move UPS!

However, to me, when a company name or logo is "disguised" like that, I always think of the real company anyways, so what were they losing out on? Ever see a show where a coke can is covered up and it says SODA? You can still see what brand it is so what difference does it make?

I see UPS's point of view. At times Doug and his fellow drivers may not have lived up to the "standards" of a UPS employee. Remember, driving into all of the packages with a forklift or having sex in back of Doug's truck (while on duty), is probably not the image UPS wanted. Of course it was funny for us and I loved to see all those situations
