Child Molestors often give their victims alcohol prior to committing their acts. As an editor/reporter, you see these things on the police reports. I am sure the writers probably pulled some reports for ideas for the script. I remember the episode was also given to schools to show students to raise awareness about such issues.

Madderest Unbelievable

Now you guys are angry with an actor who played a child molester on Diff'rent Strokes, grow up.

Every time "The Bicycle Man" episodes are discussed here, you guys always take it too seriously.

As you watch the episodes, you will notice there were the usual Diff'rent Strokes jokes that the audience laughed at, and the studio audience was REAL. The jokes was INDEED funny, but you let it disturb you so you can feel like a righteous citizen. Unless you tried hard not to laugh so you won't feel like you're a pedophile for laughing. Relax, it's a sitcom.

In fact, the "Bicycle Man" episodes was very mild compared to the "Hitch-Hikers" and the "Sam's Missing" episodes.

Another episode that was considered "serious" was the Smoking episode... when Arnold and Dudley was smoking in Arnold's room, this was a serious episode, yet funny.

So relax, you are not a horrible person (that needs to be boiled in oil) for chuckling at the jokes in "The Bicycle Man", didn't the audience laugh? It seems like whenever you see this particular episode you force yourself to keep a straight face no matter what.

Now I'm very prepared for all the flaming, so give your best shot. There are so many sick programs on televison today that you don't feel discusted about, but this little 2-parter episode in Diff'rent Strokes makes you squirmish and uncomfortable. Go seek some counseling.
