Lifetime editing question - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just watched a bootleg DVDR of the NBC broadcast of 10/31/90. Stack mentions that it is Halloween. I was reminded of another broadcast, from December, in which Stack wishes the viewers a "Happy Holiday".

I can't recall the Lifetime versions. Did they retain Stack's seasonal comments?

Also, in the Live from the Telecenter broadcast, he wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lifetime edited those comments out to make room for updates.

Either that or Lifetime edited them out simply because the eps were being shown as reruns and it would be ridiculous to have RS say "Happy Thanksgiving!" in the middle of July or "Merry Christmas!" around Memorial Day, etc.

Well actually the "Live From the Telecenter" episode was never shown on Lifetime that I am aware of. I can definitely see Lifetime editing out the pleasantries from the show though to make room for more commercials.

Speaking of ole Lifetime and their editing. I love watching the NBC airings because I have seen a lot of scenes that Lifetime has edited out. The most recent deleted scene I noticed was on the Charles Mulet segment. He was the cop from Louisiana who was wanted for child rape and molestation. In a scene that I had never seen on Lifetime they show cops busting into this trailer in hopes of finding Mulet. They panned around and show the trailer was empty and RS went on to say that they think some of his fellow police officers tipped him off and he was able to get away before they got there. That is a pretty important scene and I think Lifetime could have edited the segment elsewhere to make room for the update. Those of you who are getting volume 10 will be able to see it as its on there but since its an NBC airing the update of course is not on there.

There was added footage in the "Katie" segment in which she talked about her first supernatural experience seeing the ghost of her husband's father, as well as a recreation of the event.

I get the feeling the Bowling Alley Massacre is heavily cut, it only runs about what, 5-6 min?

I watched the original NBC version years ago but can't really remember.. The Lifetime version on Crystaldawn's second dvd seems to short for a case like that. I mean especially since they never mentioned the owner's shady business that he supposedly was involved in.

Was it a special alert? I can't remember. If it was, that would explain the short length.

I seem to recall the segment originally airing not too long after the murders. Perhaps the police didn't want to go public with a ton of information that early in the life of the investigation.

All shows that go into syndication are edited by at least a minute or 2 from their original network broadcasts to make room for more commercials. If anyone follows Roseanne, thet season 1 dvd set has the syndicated versions of the shows and when people noticed they got really mad. On seasons 2-7 currnetly available, it says all 25 original uncut episodes. They hit at least the 23 minute mark. A half hour show in syndication is about 22 min max and an hour show is about 44 now. It's a real pain to reformat shows for reruns and if you notice the end credits (which they always have time for. usually that's the first thing to be edited down) have "reformatting for Lifetime" somewhere on one of the cards. Also, when UM was originally on NBC, they would have shown less commercials than they do now, so the original episodes would be longer than an hour show would be today.

Well, the re-runs also had updates that were, for obvious reasons, not a part of the original broadcasts.

Wow, I justed re-watched the original NBC version of the Boston Serial Rapist/Robber on one of my tapes and I compared it with the syndicated Lifetime version on one of CD's dvds (volume 4 I think).

This scene was edited out of the Lifetime version: The joint task force involving personnel from eight different police forces, their conclusion was that the same man was responsible for nine incidents in the greater Boston area.

But the strangest thing is that they changed the composite sketches, the ones shown on NBC are completely different from the ones shown on Lifetime.

I don’t know why they would change that unless it was a long time after the original broadcast.
