I never cared for the theme song that much, but I do like to make fun of some of the words.
Instead of singing it like this: Yea we tease him a lot Cause we've got him on the spot Welcome Back I like to sing it like this: Yea we tease him a lot Cause he's Johnny on the spot Welcome Back No special reason, it just sounds humorous that way.

I have always like the theme to Kotter. It was big for John Sebastin. When it was out as a record, was it simply known as "Welcome Back" and then they had to add to the title "Theme to Welcome Back Kotter"? I guess what I want to ask is, does anybody know about any history about how the song came about?

The Welcome Back Kotter theme is one of my favorite tv theme songs.
I heard the full uncut version on the radio a few years ago and it's even better than the one on the show.

Yes, I like that song. JS was a member of the 60's Rock band Lovin Spoonful.

"Welcome Back" was one of the very few television theme songs to go all the
way to the No. 1 spot in the Billboard Top 40. John Sebastian (the former lead singer of the Lovin' Spoonful) was asked to put Kotter's name in the song but quipped that the only word that rhymed was otter!
