That wouldn't be feasible because what if you are the only person who has that station? I am from So. California and I know there are only a handful of people on the board from here.

I would like to contribute here. I am from Milwaukie (suburb of Portland), OR. Anyone else on this board from the Pacific Northwest?
My city's local TV stations were/are: KPTV 12 - founded September 20, 1952 as KPTV 27, with the channel 12 allocation being first assigned to KLOR when it was founded 1955, initially as an ABC affiliate. Until the founding of KOIN 6 in October 1953, KPTV had aired programming from all three major networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) plus the defunct DuMont network (an initial Paramount Pictures holding). KPTV and KLOR merged in 1957, thus creating the KPTV 12 we Portlanders all know and love. When KGW 8 switched to NBC affiliation in April 1959, ABC programming was once again allocated to KPTV 12, a position it would hold until March 1, 1964 when the then two-year old KATU 2 picked up ABC affiliation full-time. For over the next 20 years, KPTV was an independent station. KPTV was the original affiliate of the FOX network when it was founded in 1986, but declining initial ratings forced KPTV to defect FOX affiliation to KPDX in 1988. Independent again, KPTV would wait seven more years until they found another new affiliate in UPN (United Paramount Network) in January 1995. As of 2002, KPTV 12 once again became a FOX affiliate, a position it holds to this day. KOIN 6 - founded October 15, 1953, and was a CBS affiliate when new. KLOR 12 - founded 1955, this station was the counterpart to KPTV then allocated on channel 27, and was Portland's original ABC affiliate. After KGW 8 was founded in 1956, the ABC affiliation moved there, and KLOR became an independent station for the rest of its run until its merger with KPTV 27 in 1957. KGW 8 - founded December 15, 1956, originally as an ABC affiliate. On April 26, 1959, the station switched affiliations from ABC to NBC, with ABC's affiliations going back to KPTV 12 (KGW's sister station, KING-TV in Seattle, WA, also switched affiliations from ABC to NBC around this same time). KATU 2 - founded March 15, 1962, originally as an independent station. On March 1, 1964, KPTV 12 gave KATU the ABC affiliation full time. KPXG 5 - founded November 21, 1981, originally as KECH 22 (slogan: Catch 22), which like KPTV 12 and the future KPDX 49, had broadcast off-network reruns of TV shows and movies. By the time its callsign switch to KWVT was committed in 1986, its programming was general entertainment and was Portland's original HSN (Home Shopping Network) affiliate during that time. Two more callsign changes followed: to KHSP in 1987 and then KBSP in 1988. In 1996, Paxson Communications bought KBSP and religious programming (morning), infomercials (noon) and worship broadcasting (night) was broadcast. Two years on, PAX TV programming was broadcast from noon to night, changing its callsign to KPXG (Paxson Oregon). KPDX 49 - founded October 1983, this station began as an independent until 1988, when it had gained the FOX affiliation from KPTV 12; this relationship continued until 2002, when FOX reunited with its original station for the first time since 1986, with KPDX taking the UPN affiliation reigns. This station, as of 2006, is currently called PDX 49 and is a MyNetwork affiliate (as the UPN had merged with the WB to form the CW Network), thus moving the former UPN network over there. KRCW 3 - quite a long history here. This station had its roots on May 8, 1989 as KUTF (Keep Up the Faith), which was nearly 100% religious programming. The station was sold to Eagle Broadcasting in 1991-92, becoming KEBN (Eagle Broadcasting Network). It temporarily went off the air, but had re-assumed broadcasting in 1994. In 1995 KEBN became an affiliate of "The WB" (thus becoming KWBP, initially allocated on cable channel 32, with the current channel 3 allocation adopted the next year), and by that time bartered syndicted programs (including cartoons, TV shows and movies) were added to the station's schedule. When "The WB" and UPN merged on 1/24/2006 to form the CW, KWBP changed its call sign to KRCW (Rose City CW) 3. ~Ben Last edited by Frosty81; 06-23-2007 at 10:19 PM. |
