i wrote this script last night! thanks to the
influence of Sarah Lynn! thanks!

Eyes of the Beholder

STARRING:
Charlotte Rae as Mrs. Edna Garrett
Nancy McKeon as Jo Polniaczek
Mindy Cohn as Natalie Green
Lisa Whelchel as Blair Warner
Kim Fields as Tootie Ramsey

---STORE---Edna's Edibles---

Tootie and Blair: (working on inventory together)
Nat: (counting money) that makes $254.78 today. Pretty good!
Tootie: Nat, don't forget, you have to split that up between ALL of us!
Nat: Gee, Tootie, did ya have to spoil all my plans by telling me that?
Blair: (curiously) what plans?
Nat: I just thought that Jim and I could maybe spend a romantic evening together and eat at some fancy restaurant, you know moonlit serenade.
Tootie: Oooooo how romantic! You really like him don't you?
Nat: yeah I do! He's so sweet!
Blair: has either of you seen Jo lately? She told me she had an appointment today after class.
Tootie: Really? I wonder what for?
Blair: I don't know, she didn't tell me anything! (Thinks to self)
Nat: (looks at watch) oh, Tootie, we better get going if we want to make it to the movies on time!
Tootie: Oh yeah! Blair we'll be home by ten OK?
Blair: OK! Have fun!!
Nat and Tootie: (walk out the front door of store and run into Jo)
Nat: Hi Jo!
Tootie: Bye Jo!
Jo: (kinda sad like smiles slightly) Hi.
Nat and Tootie: (leave)
Blair: Jo, where were you?
JO: (angry) what's it to ya?
Blair: just curious, you didn't tell me where you were going!
Jo: it's none of your business! You're not my mother! (Storms out!)
Blair: (sighs and follows Jo)

------Girl's Room------

Jo: (sitting on bed reading magazine. Springstien playing loudly)
Blair: (goes to stereo and turns off music- looks at Jo)
Jo: hey! What's the big deal, I was listening to that!
Blair: not anymore! Jo, what's wrong!?
Jo: nothing!
Blair: well, something is obviously wrong! Common Jo, it's just me!
Jo: I know, that's what I'm worried about!
Blair: Jo!!!! (Says kinda whiny)
Jo: chill Blair! You'll find out soon enough anyway!
Blair: well that isn't soon enough! Just tell me and I'll get off your case! I can even help you believe it or not!
Jo: You???? Help me???? No that's a scary thought!
Blair: please Jo??
Jo: NO! I don't hafta tell ya!-I'm gonna go work on my bike! (leaves)
Blair: (sits on Jo's bed and thinks to self)

---next day---store---(store is closed)---

Jo: (walks in with bike helmet on and wont take it off)
Nat: Hi Jo!
Jo: (muffled) Hi
Blair: Why don't you take your helmet off? Or are you to afraid to show your face in public?
Nat: (laughs Ho Ho Ho!)
Mrs. G: (slaps Blair) Girls!
Jo: that's it Warner! Keep it up! (slams fist into hand)
Blair: (stops laughing and straightens up)
Mrs. G: Jo, why don't you take your helmet off, it's just us!
Jo: (muffled) (sighs) I guess you guys will have to find out sooner or later! (takes off helmet. Jo is wearing glasses)
Girls: (gasp) (girls try to muffles snickers and laughs)
Mrs. G: (whispers) GIRLS! (talks normally) Jo, there is nothing wrong with your glasses! I like them! (smiles) why did you keep it a secret from us??
Jo: Because I have to live with them! (nudges head toward the girls and looks straight at Blair. Girls stop laughing)
Tootie: (smiling really big) Jo, we wouldn't say anything bad about you because you wore glasses! You know that!
Jo: I do?
Nat: yeah, you're still the same Jo, it'll just take some time to get used to!
Jo: (loosens up a bit but still kinda tense)
Mrs. G: We don't mind, really!
Jo: Really? Thanks guys! (thinks to self) wait a minute!! Warner????
Nat: yeah Blair, aren't you going to say something nice to Join her time of suffering when she needs our comfort and support the most?
Girls and Mrs. G: (look at Natalie like that was REALLY pathetic)
Jo: Thanks Nat! (sarcastically) Go on Blair, get it over with!
Blair: now, Jo, what makes you think that I am going to say something rude and insulting??
Jo: oh…. I don't know. Maybe because…. YOU ALWAYS DO! And that look on your face just doesn't look good!
Blair: (takes smirk off her face) I'm going to let that slide! (walks over to Jo) Jo, no matter what you LOOK like, you will always be the same Jo! I can tell by what you just said to me!
Jo: (smiles) thanks Blair! The doctor said I only need the temporarily till my eyes adjust again!
Mrs. G: well that's great!
Girls: (smile)
Nat: (hugs Jo) you'll always be Jo to us, no matter what!
Blair: that's right!
Girls and Mrs. G: ( hug Jo)

That was good I liked it! Too bad they never actually did an episode like this- it would be interesting to see what Jo would look like in glasses. Good job.
