Default Diana's Sons Still Dwell on Her Death

http://apnews.excite.com/article/20070613/D8PNM1A00.html

Diana's Sons Still Dwell on Her Death

NEW YORK (AP) - The sons of England's Princess Diana said in a television interview that they still think about their mother's death all the time. This August will mark the 10th anniversary of Diana's fatal car crash inside a Paris traffic tunnel.

In an interview to be broadcast Monday on NBC, Princes William and Harry told "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer that their grieving process has been a long one, bereft of "peace and quiet" because of nonstop media attention.

"There's not a day goes by I don't think, you know, that I don't think about it once in the day," said Prince William.

Time also hasn't stopped Diana's sons from wondering - like much of the public - whether her death could have been avoided.

"When people think about it, they think about her death. They think about, you know, how wrong it was. They think about, you know, whatever happened," Harry said.

He continued: "You know, no one will ever know. And I'm sure people will always think about that the whole time."

"Have you stopped wondering?" Lauer asked.

"I'll never stop wondering about that," Harry said.

In the interview, the princes say they still hope to have lives that are "as normal as possible," aside from their royal responsibilities.

NBC plans to broadcast parts of the interview on both the "Today" show and "Dateline NBC."

I'll never forget that weekend in 1997. The day before the tragedy happened, I had my wisdom teeth taken out. I was on the couch, completely miserable and trying to eat pudding when the show I was watching (I think it was Cops) was interrupted by a special news bulletin. That night before I went to sleep I said a prayer for Diana (she was still alive but critical) and hoped she'd be all right. When I woke up, I heard the sad news.

I always felt the worst for William and Harry. They are almost the exact same ages as my two siblings, and were quite young at the time. I wish them both nothing but the best, and hope they find the happiness and peace their mother never did.

God, I remember that weekend to a TEE. I had just been bitten by a dog when I was in the car on the way to the emergency room. The radio was on and the D.J. was taking caller's requests for songs when a young girl stated to him that "Princess Diana died in a car crash." I was STUNNED. The D.J. said, "Now hold on, wait a minute...are you sure?" It went back and forth like that and the D.J. told the listeners that he hasn't received any word from his boss regarding such a news flash, so therefore, to hold on before believing this story.

At the hospital while I laid up in pain, I seen CNN and the whole shocking story. I was in shock. I couldn't believe it. That night I couldn't sleep, not only because of the pain of the dog bites and the tetanus shot, but because I was glued to the news.

Princess Diana has always been someone I admired, adored and loved. I was 15 when she got married. I watched it on television in the middle of the night and I was so delighted that Prince Charles had found a decent lady.

I followed her throughout her life. I read anything and everything I could abt her. I was so hurt when she died. I can't believe it is ten years. I made a thread last year on her 9th anniversary of her death and even then, it still hit me that she has been gone for so long.

It must be really sad for her two sons to be constantly reminded of the accident and her death by the media. It makes you wonder how they were able to cope with it as well as they did.

Diana's Sons Describe Impact of Losing Her

Harry Says Her Death Will Always Remain Mystery

LOS ANGELES (June 12) - Britain's Prince Harry says in a U.S. interview with his brother that no one will ever know the truth about the death of his mother, Princess Diana , in a car crash in a Paris tunnel almost a decade ago.

In an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer to air on Monday on the "Today" show and "Dateline NBC," Harry said: "Whatever happened in that tunnel ... you know no one will ever know. And I'm sure people will always think about that the whole time ... I'll never stop wondering about that."

Harry, 22, and his brother William, 24, try to describe the impact of their mother's death on their lives.

Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997 after a high-speed car crash in a Paris tunnel along with her boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed, and their driver.

Both princes said in the interview conducted last month that in the decade since their mother's death, time had passed very slowly, with William, 24, adding that not a day goes by that he doesn't think about her and her death.

Lauer said Diana wanted her sons to live lives as normal as possible and asked the princes if they thought they had.

Harry answered, "I think she'd be happy in the way that we're going about it but slightly unhappy about the way the other people were going about it, as in saying, 'Look you're not normal so stop trying' to be normal,' which is very much what we get a lot."

He added: "Within our private life and within certain other parts of our life we want to be as normal as possible. And yes it's hard -- 'cause to a certain respect we never will be normal."

Asked what they would do if they weren't princes, William joked that when he was younger, he wanted to be a police officer "but not now." Then he added that he'd like to fly helicopters, "you know, working for the U.N. maybe or something like that."

When Lauer asked Harry, William cut in and said, amid laughter, "He'd probably play computer games and drink beer."

But Harry said he'd like to live in Africa, be involved in humanitarian activities and work as a safari guide.

In their mother's honor, the two princes have organized a concert for July 1, which would have been her 46th birthday.

I hate the new book that is coming out (not sure if it already is)...the author claims that Diana was a lady in public, but not the "virginal" person we all were told she was. What a bunch of hogwash.

So what? I don't care if she slept with Prince Charles beforehand. That was her fiancee. It is being alluded that Diana spent the weekend aboard a train that Prince Charles was on.

Ok, big deal. That doesn't mean they slept together. She could have had her own suite on the train.

I wish these bastards would remember that her children are still ALIVE and they love and cherished her. Her memory in my eyes can't be tarnished. I loved her and hope that somehow from Heaven, she is watching over her boys and guiding them to do the right things in life as she wanted when she was alive.
