1.A crushing blow - Phil Leotardo is whacked.

Soprano family soldier Walden Belfiore (Frank John Hughes) got the honor of shooting New York mobster Leotardo (Frank Vincent) point-blank in the head at a gas station.

An SUV parked nearby, its transmission mistakenly still in “drive,” then rolls over poor Phil’s head.

Phil’s death meant Tony Soprano won the New York-New Jersey gang war. Or did it?

2. The mother of all cliffhangers: Is Tony Soprano alive or dead?

In the most stunning cliffhanger ending ever staged for the finale of a hit TV series, "The Sopranos" concluded in the middle of a scene that might have ended with either Tony (or members of his family) gunned down in a burger joint, or simply enjoying a nice meal.

It had the Soprano family - Tony (James Gandolfini), wife Carmela (Edie Falco), daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) and son Anthony Jr. (Robert Iler) - sitting down to a meal at Holsten's restaurant in Bloomfield, N.J., while Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " played on the jukebox.

Meanwhile, men who may or may not have meant to do harm to the family enter the restaurant. We'll never know

3. A meeting with Uncle Junior.

In a visit to the state hospital where his demented Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) now resides, Tony gets a chance to observe firsthand his uncle’s deteriorated mental and physical condition.

4. A promotion for Paulie Walnuts.

Life goes on, says Paulie (Tony Sirico) at the funeral for Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri. And, indeed, before long, Paulie and Tony are back sitting in the sunshine outside Satriale’s Pork Store, where Paulie accepts Tony’s offer to become captain of the Cifaretto crew.

5. A.J.’s car goes up in flames.

In one of the episode’s most dramatic moments, A.J. gets a scare when his SUV is suddenly consumed by flames as he’s getting amorous with his high-school-aged girlfriend, Rhiannon (Emily Wickersham). They both survive.

The fire had nothing to do with mob violence; the SUV simply ignited a pile of leaves upon which he had parked.

AJ's car going up in flames was hilarious.

Paulie looked like he was bugging out, with the cat staring at Christopher's picture. It was sad seeing Uncle Junior just so out of it. When Phil got popped, I couldn't believe it when the car ran over his head.

There were some intense moments in the show. The more I think about it, I like the way it ended. Now it's wide open for a movie.

I heard on the radio today that the way it all went black was because Tony was shot and us seeing the "blackness" was from Tony's point of view. We in effect were "shot". That is how it is when one dies.

It was also said that it should have just ended when Tony was at the mental hospital.
